"Fn" key opens extension menu
-
I created clean new profile and installed several extensions.
When I am pressing "Fn" key random extension is activated.
Please, look at attached screenshot. -
The Fn key by default has no function, it only has it when a key or key combination is assigned to it.
Maybe this is what you have done without wanting it.
I do not think therefore that it is a problem of Vivaldi but the cause is in the assignment of the keyboard in your system.
To assign a function to the Fn key, keep it pressed and the key you want to assign to it. -
@zdm
confirmed; Fn-Key definitely has impact on my Vivaldi. -
I can't reproduce it. My Fn key hasn`t any efect. What extensions do you use?
The problem is that the behavior and handling of the Fn key is not uniform and depends on the OS and the manufacturer of the equipment.
In Windows you can perhaps use this utility to reassign or cancel the function of the keys and also the one of Fn

Hmmm, I didn't touch my system and in vivaldi 1.15 everything was fine, this behavior appeared after upgraded to 2.0.
Vivaldi 2 looks raw. It has a lot of small issues. -
This is definitely the problem of the Vivaldi 2.0.
Random extension is activated, but menu is shown in wrong place.
Look like this is a another one bug. -
As I said, by default the Fn key should not have any function or effect on it, just as if it were not connected. If it does, there must be a key assigned to it for some reason.
The problem is that each manufacturer and each OS has another way to program this key, some do it by pressing a key in combination with Fn and others need changes in the registry.
Therefore to solve this problem, it will be necessary to specify the used system, brand of the PC and also the extensions that are installed to find the cause of this strange behavior I can't reproduce
Maybe some extension has changed the configuration of the keys or changed some entry in the registry.
Mybe clean the registry solve this issue (CCleaner or better, Glary Utilities) -

Chrome extension can modify windows registry?
I will try to uninstall extensions one by one. -

Chrome extension can modify windows registry?
I will try to uninstall extensions one by one.I do not know, it can only be an extension that has some relation with the keyboard. Vivaldi can usually use Chrome extensions, but some can cause conflicts with some Vivaldi feature.
-
I also saw some weird things with the fn key. When I press the fn key + f1/f2/f3 to adjust the volume, I often activate an extension. This problem didn't happen before but after the 2.0 update.
-
The same thing happened to me when I pressed the Caps Lock key sometimes. Also it didn't happen in the previous version.
-
It seems that in my case, the problem occurs as long as an extension is enabled. I do think this is a bug with the 2.0 version.
-
Which extension?
-
@catweazle It does't matter which one. It seems any extension can cause such problem. I have reinstalled extensions, but won't help.
-
If you don¡t spec your system and nor the extensions you use, it will be difficult for search the problem.
You can only make a bug report.
PD There are a new minor update of Vivaldi with some regresion., try it -
@catweazle I already tried the newest update, doesn't help however.
I'm using Windows 10 x64. The extension I'm using are: google docs offline, ublock origin, Paperpile Extension, and XDM Browser Monitor.

Seems, that this issue is not present, when I am installing my set of extensions to the completely new profile. But I am copying "Default\Local App Settings\mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli" from the old profile, because I have lot of search engines configured and there is no other way to move them to the new profile.
Do you know other way to export/import search engines without make full copy of old settings?
-
I can confirm this issue. Sometimes when I use the volume control keys with fn, one of the extension actives on the toolbar. Always the same. But it does not happen every time.
Edit: It happens only since the update from 1.15 to 2.0.
-
I think I found the reason which caused this issue. The issue happened when I activated the single key shortcut in the setting-keyboard menu. When I disabled this option, the problem was gone.
-
Another way to prevent this issue before Vivaldi fixes this bug is to enable the extension toggle button in the setting-address bar menu.
