cannot enter text/numbers into forms

I can't use e-commerce sites unless I first enter the info into a text editor, so I can then cut and paste the requisite info into the form...Bit of a turn-off! Any clues welcomed. Using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

My bank for one, and various other commercial sites, ie, places I order goods from.
No virtual keyboard software. -
Just tried it at my city's utility bill payment page: had to do the cut and past, plus tab to the different boxes. . .

Well, I ended up resetting my profile, and things appear to be working as they did before!

"sudo" was not part of @Gwen-Dragon's command.Run as a user and the browser has access to all the user files. Run as root and the browser has access to the entire system. Given the likelihood of any given browser being affected by remote code execution flaws, the number of these types of flaws, and the wide attack surface (nearly every web site should be considered untrustworthy in this context) it is advised to never run a web browser as the root user.
