My contribution: What's Love Got to Do with It
They've recently played this at work ...

@Catweazle
my 10 have already been used up for you today.An interesting thread.
Although there is certainly a difference between strange interpretation, slapstick and the popular parading of people at music shows.
Which always says more about the judges than the singer. -

Florence Foster Jenkins - Queen of the Night by Mozart
Oh I love that. I didn't know they made a movie from that woman's story. Got to put that on my watch list.

On the subject of musical crimes, let me throw in some high crimes and misdemeanors ...
Wal-mart used to sell some compilations of cheap music not by the original artist, which fortunately they seem to have stopped doing. Possibly because no one would ever buy more than one. I bought one once, the worst offender on that album was a remake of The Conga. The lyrics were okay, but the drums were completely off - after hearing that song I threw the disc away.
In the misdemeanors category though ... there are some people (non-musicians) who apparently can't hear the difference between Toto's Africa and Wheezer's recent remake. Okay, the latter isn't bad, but how can you possibly confuse them? Are you going to tell me you can't tell the difference between Rascal Flatts and Tom Cochrane (singing Life is a Highway, if you weren't aware of the song both did)
Another misdemeanor is thinking Naked Eyes was the original singer of Always Something There to Remind Me. Okay, ignorance can be excused, but don't assume something is original. I mean, even if the older version were complete junk (as with Red, Red Wine, say) we still have to give credit where credit is due - and Always Something There to Remind Me was far from that.
Oh, the biggest musical crime of all is all those retailers playing non-stop Christmas music over a month early - think we could launch a class-action there?

Some people think that Black Magic Woman was by Santana. They should listen to the original and make their own choice about which is better.
The Green Manalishi original is way better than the cover by Judas Priest, in my opinion.
Covers can be better or worse, but I think the original needs to be acknowledged.
I've got a good mind to give up living, was originally by B.B. King.

I agree, sometimes music is made by people who shouldn't have made it. As for me, Kurt Cobain was Unnecessary in this business

@Catweazle That was gross
