@shifte I have fond memories from my youth playing the text adventure Shōgun on the Amiga. This was based on the very popular novel and movie of the same name of course.
I can't remember if I finished it (text adventures were hard as nails back then), but I do remember the game forces you to memorise Japanese phrases to proceed.
In one scene you get an audience with the Daimyō, and if you don't know your Konnichiwa from your Domo Arigato you lose your head - literally - Game Over
