Saved Passwords Encryption
-
Hi, I am still an Opera user and considered to move to Vivaldi once it will be alpha version. I would like to know the security firmness of Vivaldi especially regarding saved passwords. Are they encrypted and decoded with my master pass? Could anyone possibly help me on this issue? Sincerely yours, decamelon

Nope. They are encrypted by a key based on the unique install of Vivaldi on your machine. Even other instances of Vivaldi, even on the same machine, were you to transfer the file, cannot open them.

I would just believe you that Vivaldi has such firm protection on saved passwords.
Thank you for your great sharing!Sincerely yours,

this doesn't mean, that they are safe by default. If tools like Chromepass can access them, this could be used by malware also.
Or am I missing something? Because of this I use O12 with a masterpassword -
Any chance there is a Password Editor available like in FF?

"You can disable password storage in Vivaldi and use a external passwordmanager like Keepass 2 which stores own a portable password database."
Can't find that setting anywhere, can you let me know where to find it please!

Thank you all!
I did not notice the thread grows this much and the question has been solved perfectly!
I will remove all my pass from Vivaldi and start using Keepass 2 asap.
In any way, Vivaldi is the coolest browser on this planet with you all!Thank you for your kind input always.
Sincerely yours,

And what about this command (on Linux):
sqlite3 ~/.config/vivaldi*/Default/Login\ Data 'select origin_url,username_value,password_value from logins' ```? By the way another question in this context: Is there a global configuration file for vivaldi where I can place start-parameters? I i.e. use``` --password-store=basic ```to suppress the annoying pop-ups for a master password, because it does not find any keyring. Unfortunately /etc/default/vivaldi does not accept that option. With KeePass I would suggest to also install extension Url in title. It will help you identify current tab more accurately. Then you can use this while building Auto-Type rules to match page.
