Is startpage.com really so private?

I am wondering about startpage.com privacy... it does use Google Adsense, it does use Google Autocomplete API, so basically it sends to Google everything that we are searching for. How is that better than Google.com ?

You are not the only one wondering about them. I don't use them because as far as I am concerned it is a big scam!
Also, Google gives you better search results. The make sure you are not directly logged in to Google/Gmail when searching and you can make sure this is the case is to clear all cookies for Google in the browser. I clean the cookies when closing the broser anyway so this is not the problem. In vivaldi you allow cookies for "Session only" and block all 3rd party cookies. This way when the broser is closed, the cookies are also cleared.

Alternatively, consider using searX, with gargle as one of the [several] search engines you can enable. You get to have your cake & eat it, this way.

Agreed. I've been using SearX on disroot.org for four or five months now and like it very much.

@bf60vhr The problem is that todays fingerprinting technology doesn't need cookies to track users. So anything that gets to google directly will connect it to you anyway.
