Suite:
- «Dans un hôtel de luxe, chambre jumelée avec un ou plusieurs salons à usage privé.» (In a luxury hotel, room followed by one or more lounges for private use.) from Larousse online dictionary,
- «Dans un hôtel de luxe, appartement composé de plusieurs pièces, loué à un même client.» (In a luxury hotel, a flat consisting of several rooms, rented to a single guest.) from Larousse Lexus.
So it seems logical that a «suite» includes private bathroom. But a «suite» is not one room (even with private bathroom).
Furthermore «en suite» ≠ «ensuite» (= afterwards, next, later, then…).
Btw, we translate «tennis player» by «tennisman» & «tram/streetcar» by «tramway»
. We happily think «décevoir»(to disappoint)=«to deceive»(tromper) & «versatile»(fickle)=«versatile»(polyvalent).

My point was that in English Hotels/Boarding houses, a room is described as "en suite" (yes, two words!!) if it has a private bathroom (toilet). -
