OFFLINE bookmark manager?
-
Hi all,
is anyone aware of a bookmark manager able to deal with both Vivaldi and Firefox which has the following features:
- offline (local host or LAN only) is mandatory
- ideally Linux&Windows. If need be, Windows only would be okay as one could then simply move the respective browsers' bookmark files between OS's
- allowing for bookmark exchange between Firefox <> Vivaldi
- export/import browser bookmarks with all stored information, so that additional data such as tags will be included and not just the URL and its alt-text (= so AFAIK an HTML export as offered by e.g. Vivaldi would not get the job done)
- open source preferred
- idc whether standalone 3rd party or browser addon/extension (=OS independent then)
- ability to identify superfluous twins
- optional: check if bookmarked sites are still online and if not: check availability through archive.org
Thanks in advance.

HI @RogerWilco. That are quite a lot of wishes and requirements you have...
But yes, agree. All important features which are not available as standard configurations.
I was looking for a Bookmark Manager Software on my OS too which manages my bookmarks centralised and synchronise the bookmarks per profile with web browsers and different devices...
Just to make sure: You are looking for BM software right? not for an online tool?I was doing some research work a while a go about bookmark tools, web content manager The Web 3.0 decade brought a huge amount of bookmark management tools to us. But raise and fall are close together in this industry. Some very promising start-ups with great ideas how "modern" bookmarking and web content gathering could look like are not anymore. Wrong investors and/or short term strategies might be the main reason for the huge number of disappeared tools and the half dead applications, which buzzing around in the world wide web without crew on the command bridge ....
I've tried quite a lot of those web tools and most of them has a bunch of great features but show their weakness in being absolutely not privacy friendly - which is a shame in 2020. They promising a lot but betraying users by tracking them and has access to huge amount of sensitive user data. That is not really what we are looking for, right?
However, In a time in which online applications are in demand and all data needs to be synchronised to a cloud beyond our control, OS bookmark applications seems to be a rare good. But ....
There is one comes straight a head to my mind:
⢠Rons WebLynx Bookmark ManagerI tried this one a few months a go (still here for test purposes) and yes, it is not too bad. Lots of nice features. The Sync has just been added recently and the interaction with a browser works with an extension. Plus, lots of ways to import and export data. Stored is everything local folders..
