No way it generates the power that Maynard Ferguson's version generates
Power alone is not everything and the Weather Report versions differ greatly in their dynamic range, depending on the medium you have got.

Additionally every medium switch costs resolution - or the studio "expanded" the original signal. With Weather Report you need to listen to the original vinyl release or the mastersound CD (I own both) to get the real feeling …But I can understand if someone likes the brass sets of Ferguson more, but that is really more a matter of taste because I personally prefer smaller settings. I think if I can lay my hand on an original I'll upload the measurement result of Ferguson to that page too.

I'll admit that I'm sure Weather Report's Birdland is bound to sound much better had I heard them on a CD, a cassette or on an LP album. I unfortunately only got to hear them on a YouTube.
And I'll vouch for that most YouTubes sound like crap.Heyyy, if you like smaller band versions, you might have liked MY Suntana Mini Concert version.
Back on MyOpera I had a series of Suntana Mini Concerts that I played on my Keyboard. One of those was a medley of a short part of Birdland to start things off and then I segued into In the Mood. Unfortunately, with MyOpera now gone, so is my series of Mini Concerts. -
