Whats your dream car?
-
Thanks, it was a tragedy but I was young. I managed to get over the loss, but I will always have a soft spot for that model.
Now the tools, most of which had been my late father's, that was a bigger blow.
They had value and memories. He'd taught me what they were for and how to use them. -
I wouldn't mind having a '77 (+ or -) "Rockford Files" Pontiac Firebird Esprit, in gold.

Sure do miss that car. <…>
And rightly so! But you had classic car. My first car, with still 20, was a pure rational decision, not to say boring: A new 1988 Golf II (In US you call it "Rabbit").
Nothing special, except some cool BBS wheels I buyed two years later. Not that they made a sports car of it… (72 PS)
Not mine, but something like this: (mine was dark-gray metallic)

This is the Alfa Romeo Duetto, 1967.
If you saw the movie "The Graduate", this is the car Dustin Hoffman drove.
I bought it in 1967 and drove it for twenty-seven years.
It was not cheap to maintain, but I felt good every time I got into it.
I did a lot of just-before-dawn runs up the south coast of New South Wales, about six hours at a time.
Every car I have had ever since has been an anti-climax

Yes, I remember the Rabbit very well. The principal at the school in which I taught had one and I rode in it a number of times. It handled very nicely, was air-tight (always remember the satisfying way the doors closed with the air locked inside the cabin of the car) and the smell of the leather. Nice car and yes, a rational decision when compared to my emotional, heart's choice. Tell me: did you dress like a pimp?
-
I LOVED that car. Look at its lines. Man that thing was a sexy machine. Probably quite a chick magnet, eh? LOL

@AngiesDOM:
In 1977 i had a black 356 Porsche 1600, but unfortunately had to sell it after my gilfriend married me.
:woohoo:
LOL… that's exactly what happened to my Mustang!

Tell me: did you dress like a pimp?
Never. I was one of the cool guys - inspired by "Top Gun" and Levi's 501 commercials at this time.
(Ray Ban, t-shirt (mostly white), jeans - more was no need) -
After about 1200 hours of work:

@QuHno: very cool. I congratulate you on your work of art. Must be a joy to take this beauty out on the country roads. Love the lines and the great chrome work. The dashboard is incredible. Not sure about the doggie in the back window! LOL

(Ray Ban, t-shirt (mostly white), jeans - more was no need)Haha… yeah, sure. Thing is, I "thought" I was pretty cool in that outfit but looking back on it now, I have to laugh. Now I didn't dress like that all the time, mind you. I wore jeans too (but they were bell-bottoms when bell-bottoms were hot... LOL) and t-shirts. Nah! I don't think I was cool now that I come to think of it. I did manage to keep myself clean. I used to play third base because I had a good arm and glove. Batters would T-off on me but my glove was like a vacuum. And I never got dirty playing. One night the team surrounded me, threw me to the ground and kicked dirt all over me until I was covered in the stuff.
Anyway... forgive the side-tracking here. Your Rabbit was very sensible but cool??? Not really.

No need to congratulate me to a work of art - the Volvo designers and engineers made it like this - I merely restored it after about 42 years "abuse" in our humid and salty winters and tried to stick as near to the original as was possible…
I made some small modifications, but they are under the hood - like e.g. a better break servo, a catalytic converter (luckily someone developed a kit for this model, no need to be an environmental pig if there is no need for it), different seats with head rests (which can be easily swapped back to the original seats for historic car meetings) and a zinc plating for the chassis because I use it as regular car, not only when the summer sun shines
PS: The nodding dog (aka "Wackeldackel" in German) belongs into a car of that era if it was driven in Germany - and yes, it is an original, no cheap remake

Mine!
Geil!!!

Okay. The Wackeldackel stays.

Had to look up the Snow Witch Coffin.

Do you have one today? My current car is a Toyota 2012 RAV4 Limited Edition. I love sitting a little higher in the car than previously. My next car will be the Lexus SUV which I'm currently saving towards. My stepson owns one and he loves it.

Golf I and II are also classics! I think those two models where two of the most iconic/beautiful hatchbacks of all time.
For me it all started out in this:
Fiat Punto Sporting, 80PS with automatic CVD-transmission. For Europe this car was really rare, never saw a second one with the same setup. And I sure loved it and miss it (mostly for the memories, I sure was young). -

Yeah… these dream cars that we're coming up with are mostly based upon memories and those are tied with our youth so somehow the two things (dream car/youth) are melded into one idea. My Mustang will always be my dream car because I was 21 years old, single, and enjoying life to the fullest. It's hard to separate the car from the "rest of it" if you get me.

Nah, it didn't! However it had a sunny personality.

Odd that a Fiat wouldn't be as available in Europe since it was made in Italy. I wonder if it's become a collector's car today?

Here in Australia, where rabbits are vermin, no-one would call a car a Rabbit.
You might as well call it a Cockroach.
