Here's something I'm surprised we haven't discussed before: What are some good ISPs and mobile network operators (i.e. wireless carriers, cellular companies).

@Eggcorn For mobile network operators, the safest bet is to ask people that live near you. There are often unique circumstances that will make one have better coverage than the rest.

You can also look up your phone on Kimovil to see which bands it supports and how that matches up with various providers.

I live in a more rural mountainous area of the United States and have the best luck with the T-Mobile network, but the best deals are often on the MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators) that lease the usage of the major networks.

They can get deprioritized service compared to major carriers when there is congestion on the network, but I have never really had any issues. Might be a different situation in a big city. There are also fewer device deals on MVNOs, but I like to buy network unlocked flagship devices that are a few years old. In the United States, Swappa.com is pretty good for this.

There is also a handy website ( for the United States ) for comparing the various plans available, BestPhonePlans.net. That is how I narrow down which MVNO to use after I know which network I want to be on.
