      I don't want Mail 2 to automatically download email. How do I stop it?

        @rh1151 Settings -> Mail settings -> Check for new mail (about halfway down the list) -> Manually

          Oops... forgot about this!

          I do have Check for New Mail set to manually.

              @rh1151 Thanks for the quick response!
              I have 3 email ids, and yes, all 3 are set to manually.
              What about "Download Messages to Generate Previews on Demand"?

                @rh1151 Mail can show part of the message (see the setting above that - default seems to be "2 lines" in the message list, but to do so requires fetching the message content from the server rather than just the list of available messages. Since that presumes it has already checked for new messages (and your intent is not to have it check in the first place), I don't see it helping here.

                Speaking of checking though, have you installed any mail check extensions? I know there are such for people who don't use the mail client, such as Gmail notifier.

                  Nope.. just 2 auto fill extensions.
                  The only way I have found to stop Vivaldi loading emails is to disable the email option.

                    @rh1151 Check Settings > Mail > Sync Options and make sure “opened messages” is selected.

                    The last released version changed the prefetch behavior, see https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/desktop-releases/vivaldi-on-desktop-6-8/

                    Usually on Win11 running Vivaldi Snapshot builds. Opinionated about working efficiently with email. Folders are evil | Mail workflow: receive, read, reply, mark as read, done.

                      @WildEnte
                      Thanks... My Vivaldi does not have the "opened messages" option....
                      I tried syncing with 0 size, but that didn't work either.
                      I guess I'll just disable mail and then turn it back on when I want mail.
                      Come on Vivaldi... give us an option to NOT automatically download mail!

                        @rh1151 if you don't have the option you probably don't use the latest version?

                          @rh1151 ... UPDATE...
                          "Open messages" is an IMAP option! 2 of my email ids are POP.
