Memory Saver and Compact menus – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3329.7

Is this disabled by default and cannot be enabled?
-
@Gif2D It's enabled and can be disabled, for me at least
-
@iAN-CooG strange customizations, mine seems to be permanently disabled.
At least I can manually check for updates.
-
@ruarí: Fresh install on a Surface Pro X SQ1 (before I was forced to use a different browser on this machine).
It works like a charm!!!! Stable and fast, will test it a bit and report but I must say I am very happy, thanks for this -
I've been looking forward to this but can't find it, even in Chrome 124, which makes me think I'm missing something. Is it not meant to be a flag?
https://www.neowin.net/news/chrome-will-get-improved-text-rendering-thanks-to-microsoftIt is in Edge, so it's unclear why it wouldn't be elsewhere:
chrome://flags/#edge-enhance-text-contrastNot to be confused with this, which predates it:
chrome://flags/#chrome-refresh-2023-top-chrome-font -
@mib2berlin This must be a way that works, imagine doing this on all the themes that exist.
I believe there is a way to do this once.
Hugs. -
@rseiler The Windows-only UseGammaContrastRegistrySettings feature, which seems to be what is referenced in the feature page (via the bug) linked by neowin, is enabled in Vivaldi 6.7.
I am not familiar with what it is, so no idea whether it is restricted to Windows 11 or not.
-
@yngve Oh, OK, so it may just be something that's baked in now and not even using the flag system (except in Edge).
In Win11, just comparing the Neowin article's text in 6.7 vs 6.6, the text is not as faint as it tends to be in Chromium browsers. And there's even a more noticeable difference in 6.7, though this may just be a coincidence and have nothing to do with it: the font used for things like the upper-left menu is radically better-looking (darker, more pronounced).
-
@rseiler I did check the fonts when looking at that Neowin page between 6.6 and 6.7 and I can confirm your findings. The fonts on 6.7 are better defined and smoother edged. It is a noticeable improvement.
When you mention the upper left menu are you referring to the Vivaldi menu. I did not see differences with a quick comparison; it is also harder to compare because you can't have both menus active at the same time. I am using Vivaldi in dark mode and I think you are using light mode which could account for differences in our observations?
-
@pathduck: I'd love to be able to remove spacing between menu items. I'd love to see that if Vivaldi ever took over the menus.
-
If I try to install a website, in my case YouTube, Vivaldi closes directly.

Is the Compact Menu a permanent solution or is it only viable while that flag exists?
Unfortunately, it is probably going to be temporary; according to my information the Chromium team is already hard at work removing the old menu configuration code. I have no detailed information about just how long they are going to take doing that.
Hi,
Despite a bit OT, even on the previous Menu Layout, when on a small screen. Laptops usually, the menu is shrinked needing to scroll it to access the whole items. This seems to be even worst on the new layout.
I've been searching, and many Chromium users are facing this.
Do you know about that and whether exist a fix or Devs mentioned regarding the new layout?Thx
-
@Zalex108 I did notice comments related to the new format mentioning issues with laptops, and IIRC I mentioned that to a Chromium dev I was chatting with about the issue.
A (very) quick search in their bug tracker did not turn up any recent (publicly viewable) bugs about such an issue. (Does not mean there aren't any, but at least they were not active in the past few weeks, using the words "menu" and "laptop".)
While I suspect the Chrome support and devs read comments in forums like those you mention, they may have been missed.
Probably, the best way to get action is for a number of people reporting it to the Chromium bugtracker, with screenshots or photos demonstrating the issue.

I see this on both Linux (Ubuntu and Debian) and Windows (Win10).
I cleared my sync data and Vivaldi has been trying to 'initialise sync' ever since - constant timeouts for three hours.
In my case, it appears V appears to exchange sync data with V servers on start, and then asks for my decryption password. If I enter my password in Sync settings, it all appears to work correctly. It's like V is just forgetting the decryption password in my case.

I am on snapshot for about a week now, and I never could receive a token for Privacy Guard.
Is this not available in Austria maybe?
-
@ShalokShalom Are you on ARM Linux? The first snapshot with Privacy Guard mentioned that it wouldn't work on those builds for now.
@Ruarí Is that still the case? I haven't seen it be mentioned as a known issue for any subsequent snapshots.
