And I can tell you why I wouldn’t switch to Arc. It received over 60 million Dollars in funding from outside investors, it’s based in the US. At some point down the line enshittification will happen and it’s likely the company will be sold. The investors will want to see a return on their investment, that's how it goes. I mean it’s the reason Opera browser is Chinese now, an obvious example.

Ah well, nothing lasts forever. Forgive me for this necro but I found your post and writing a comment here allows me to forgo making one called "I switched to Vivaldi, here is why".
-
@RssFeedSortingEnthusiast Yeah I immediately switched back to Vivaldi today after watching that weird video the Arc team posted. The enshittification prognosis by luetage was pretty much spot on, sadly.
-
Never heard of a browser forcing sign-up even before first-try. So, I ain't using it.
-
Thanks, @luetage, @RssFeedSortingEnthusiast, @dukeitch, @3dvs,
for your interesting tips. -
@RssFeedSortingEnthusiast
Welcome to the 'Vivaldiverse'.Have fun with the browser and all the other great features of Vivaldi.

Sad to say, everything is only temporary...
And Apple goes to great pains to make SURE everything is only temporary. Planned obsolescence to ensure future sales.

@Ayespy
Yes, I'm afraid so too.Thank you for taking the time to address this here.

For those who, like me, prioritise efficient tab management and might not utilise Vivaldi's additional features like the email client, Arc presents a compelling, modern alternative. Vivaldi served me well enough for a while, but Arc is truly on another level.
There's an e-mail client in there?!?
The thing I use all the time in Arc:
- New tab
- Type an address or title of a tab I already have open
- Jump directly to that tab
Is this possible in Vivaldi?
A product lives or dies in the pixels and it's the question to this browser what it wants to be doing.

Hi and yes, in the address bar settings enable Open Tab.
You can move it up to get higher priority.Cheers, mib

one of powerful browser that might rivals vivaldi, unfortunately their founder decided to abandoned it

I actually switched to Vivaldi from Arc. Arc is being so slow and power hungry for me. With some tweaks, Vivaldi does about 90% what Arc can. Only few things left is the Quick Command isn't as useful as the CMD+T in Arc, and the auto-pip in Arc is superior.
-
@lukcy13820 Totally agree. I'm constantly switching back and forth to and from vivaldi from arc. I really love auto-pip and looks like I can't live without it.

My solution to this, if anyone's interested (I know you're not!) is that I converted the Macbook to Linux Mint. It will now run the latest version of Vivaldi.
Interesting that the MacOS doesn't allow things that the hardware is quite capable of running - GIMP 3 is the same: won't run under MacOS 10.15 but works fine under Linux Mint.
