      Okay so let me understand this, is Ublock still useful vs. youtube? And what about Privacy Badger?

      I've checked around the forum, and those seem to be the most highly recommended solutions, though the recommendations all seem to be 2+ months old. Now re UBlock, I see where someone on Reddit said that youtube was sniffing it out, but then someone else said they're playing wack a mole, so it'll work and then it won't. And I've heard less about Privacy Badger, so how useful is it (still)?

      Ublock

      Just made a Test.
      I don't see Youtube Ads with uBlock

      Exported the uBlock List
      Imported to a Testing Profile
      Showed up PreVideo Ads
      Cleaned the Youtube cookies
      Refreshed

      0 PreVideo Ads
      0 InVideo Ads

      So,
      Clean the Cookies seems necessary as well as take care of the Lists.

      @Zalex108 :

      Thank you, and yeah, even if Ublock only ever works part of the time, that's something.

      Where to look for “update all used blocklists”? On vivaldi://settings/privacy/ I don't see.

      @Ryszard

      AFAIK,
      They update independently.

      But they would be outdated or deprecated.
      Current AdBlocker is very basic and on Mobile very inconvenient to manage.

      Hopefully, this will change soon. 😕

      @barbudo2005: thank you for that, but I ran into an issue when I went to download UBlock. Every time I try to install it, I'm redirected to a page to add it to Chrome, and I don't see Vivaldi listed as a browser that supports it. So I don't know whether it's even possible for me to use it without having to change browsers.

      @Hadden89: okay, but how will adding it to Chrome enable it to work on Vivaldi?

      @CStallone In the chrome store there is a blue add button on top right. If you don't see it, please check this setting is enabled, restart vivaldi and retry:

      History Time:

      Yes and not. Totally yes for the website. Ublock too originally was made for most part by Gorhill of which he was the main contributor but for stress/burnout he left the ownership of the repo to his former co-developer. Then divergences started to emerge and Ublock Origin fork has born but sadly the confusing matter of the name can't be solved anymore as Ublock wanted to keep its name 😃

      @barbudo2005: thank you for the heads up, but I'm on the link from @Hadden89. So I'm pretty sure it'll be the real thing I'll be installing.

      @Hadden89: interesting. No, I'm at the link you posted in another tab and there's no add button. I'll try and install it tonight, and let you know how it turned out. And thanks for being as helpful as you've been!

      @CStallone yeah, use uBlock Origin .. In short, uBlock is not fake but cooperates with ad platforms (like AdblockerPlus) so there is a small conflict of interests :3

      I just thought of something, and this might be a stupid question but - could a VPN disguise the use of an ad blocker from YouTube?

      @CStallone Not a stupid question at all. A VPN actually could trigger more or different ads / anti ad systems - because google has different ways to interact based on the user country - and even captchas verifications, especially if the user is logged and seen from different countries in brief periods.

      So yeah, as you can figure, g00gle can be very annoying on these matters 😃

      Vivaldi's adblocker used to be strong. But nowadays you cannot view any video on Youtube and Dailymotion because both directly detect Vivaldi's adblocker! Same problem with UBlock Origin by the way... It is very frustrating to have to deactivate Vivaldi's adblocker to be able to watch a video. Can't it be improved?
