Search for image (using Google) Does Not work
-
@sedative29rus Here is a good extension I use, called Search by Image - https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/search-by-image/cnojnbdhbhnkbcieeekonklommdnndci
It has multiple search engines you can select in the extension options. One of them is Yandex and its working.

@nohart Hi - not so much a bug as Google keeping changing stuff and breaking search for other browsers. They have recently changed Chrome to use Google Lens and retired the orginal image reverse search.
This isn't true, since I can still use the classic, non-lens reverse search via Vivaldi's Right Click > Search By Image option on my version of Vivaldi, which is Vivaldi 6.1.3035.111 / Chrome 114.0.5735.204
As proof, here's a screenshot, I just did this right now.
So, clearly, it is still possible to access this form of reverse search, if configured right. Weirdly, though, it does not work if done in a Private browsing window.
I hope that the Vivaldi developers are able to restore this version of the search from this older version of Vivaldi, since it clearly does still function if configured right. I was disappointed when I saw on another laptop with a more updated version of Vivaldi that it didn't work
Is there a way to bring it to their attention?
(I'd even be willing to pay somebody to turn it into an extension, if nessacary)

Or you can use Google Lens as a new engine:
URL:https://lens.google.com/uploadbyurl?url=%s
Image Search URL:https://lens.google.com/uploadbyurl?url={google:imageURL}
Thanks! this worked for me on newest Vivaldi.
Does anyone know if it's possible to create more than one Image Search Engine in Vivaldi? I'd like to right-click an image on the website and be able to choose between TinEye / Google Lens / Yandex, etc.

@Pathduck Even Bing image search is broken now ... (I just noticed as a new user) neither of the image search options work
-
Google and Bing Image search completely broken now in Vivaldi 6.5 and 6.6. As i know that is a confirmed bug in internal tracker.

@ljredux
Hi, this bug was reported 27/Dec/23 to the Vivaldi bug tracker, a forum post is not a bug report.
You can ask about the status of report VB-99734 in the status thread, it is confirmed, no developer assigned at moment.https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/27450/what-is-the-status-of-vb-already-reported-bug-issue/
Cheers, mib

@mikeyb2001 Are you being just pessimistic or do you know something about it from the devs?
-
@ljredux There were some things called "xmas holidays" in these 14 days, you know, some people don't work 365 days in a year and take periods off. I'm sure Vivaldi devs are among people celebrating xmas.

Hi,
@iAN-CooG mentioned the yearly workflow on that dates.Despite that, they launch some fixes even on holidays as yesterday's.
Just wait.

As mentioned in my comment here https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/721432 , the reverse search still works fine in older versions of Vivaldi, and even still uses the classic Google reverse image search rather then the inferior Google Lens version.
Whatever the issue is is not on Google's end, it's on the Browser's end. Unless other updates to the browser are inherently incompatible with however the image search function worked in older versions of Vivaldi, I don't see why it can't be fixed.
I also want to reiterate that I really hope if/when this gets fixed, it DOES use the classic/traditional Search style rather then Google Lens: Lens is basically useless to me and I'll continue to have to use an out of date browser version to keep the traditional style of reverse image search otherwise.

@iAN-CooG the whole point is to escape big tech lol

I deleted Google and use Bing Image Search instead:
https://www.bing.com/images/detail/search?iss=sbiupload&FORM=INCOH2{bing:Referral}#enterInsights
However, the images listed are irrelevant to the search.
I searched for the Dragon Space Capsule image on my own website. The results URL ishttps://www.bing.com/images/feed?form=SBIRDI#enterInsights

@Pesala Yeah, Chromium broke the post parameters like
google:imageThumbnailBase64
- apparently something's changed there with the "forced" change to Lens in Chromium 120.Use a url instead:
https://www.bing.com/images/searchbyimage?cbir=sbi&imgurl={google:imageURL}
Keep POST parameters blank.Drawback is that getting the url is slightly slower than using the thumbnail directly but no-one will notice it anyway.
-
@Pesala Thank you, this fixes the issue for me.
