Image/Icon/Different color for Speed Dial directory?

  • Hi composers, I have an other question regarding Vivaldi Browser. Is there a way to set an image/icon/color for each directory on speed dial? Or maybe show the first page of the directory. Think it's necessary for option "Never show Speed Dial titles" :side: thx broken666 [Workaround] Using different Speed Dial folders (see Pesala's post)

  • I am not sure that I understand the question, but see the Customising Speed Dial thread.

  • Hi,
    thx for your reply.

To be more comprehensible - This is a cutting of my Speed Dial.

I want them to look unique. I tried to edit "Top Sites" Db but couldn't find anything looking like "bookmark folder".

  • Try using the [+] symbol to add speed dial folders and drag & drop bookmarks into that folder using the Bookmarks Panel.

  • Thx for the workaround - works for the moment :]

  • @Pesala:

I just tried this, but it doesn't seem to work here; the image of the folder stays the same. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe I just don't understand? I'm using Vivaldi 1.2.490.39 btw.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Drag bookmarks into the new folders, not folders.

  • Thanks Pesala, but I just can't get it to work - which is most likely a user error (and why I can't stand it). ;)

    This is what I did:
I created a new folder on my Speed Dial screen by clicking the + sign, and then the 'New folder' button.
A new folder icon appeared on my Speed Dial.
Then, I entered a name for this new folder.
After that, I clicked F4 to make the bookmarks panel appear.
From there, I dragged some of my existing bookmarks into the new folder.
When I opened a new Speed Dial, the folder icon was still there.

I must be missing something here…

  • It works for me. Try refreshing the new speedial folder (F5).

  • Thanks again, Pesala.
I believe I now understand where we don't understand each other. :)

I was referring to the folders on the Speed Dial screen, you're referring to the groups on top of the Speed Dial screen.
    (am I right?)

I understood that it was (easily) possible to change the image of the folder icon on the Speed Dial screen.
AFAIK, changing that image isn't possible yet without 'hacking' into some files.
    (true?)

Clearly Pesala don't undertand what you are asking.

In short, what you're asking is not possible atm.

And it isn't possible even on the best SD alternatives. FVD doesn't have the folder support at all. And Simple Speed dial has the same behavior of the stock one.

Anyway, seem that finally the devs are looking to the SD improvment's. I will proxy your request to see if can be implemented.

Give me some credit. I can see the screen shot. If you want speed dial folders, add a new folder from the top navigation bar and add your bookmarks to that speed dial folder. Drag and drop in the bookmarks panel to save adding each bookmark again.

If you want to add folders to your speed dial, that's what the [+] sign does, and it does it without using folder icons and without wasting a slot in the speed dial.

    Thank you, Solutor.
For me personally, it was just a matter of "let's try it out!" after I (mis)read that this seemed to be possible.
It's a "nice to have" for me.

Comparing other SD solutions, others sometimes show the folder icon as a compilation of miniatures of what's inside the folder. I believe current Opera does it that way as well.

Yes, and I confused the + in the top navigation bar with the + in on the Speed Dial window itself.
I agree with you that defining SD groups is to be preferred over folders in the SD windows, except if you'd want to use it to open all these bookmarks at once.

Anyway, thanks again for your help!

    Those aren't speed dial folders.

Those are just additional speed dials to the start page. That's the official terminology that should be used to avoid confusion with the real folders that well… are the the speed dial folders

  • @The_Solutor:

    Those aren't speed dial folders.

You clearly don't understand the correct terminology.

    Unfortunately you aren't alone.

I have a bug open about this wrong tooltip ;)
