How will Vivaldi deal with Google's Manifest V3?

@Pesala, well, if you don't want yo edit the URL, you can also use simple and small userscripts which do it for you, like
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/473082-youtube-embed-forwarder
or
https://openuserjs.org/scripts/Kraust/Youtube_Embed_RedirectBoth work fine, except in some Videos which are limited to view exclusively in the YT page, there embedding don't work.

@RasheedHolland it sucks, but I have already started looking into other browsers. I hate firefox, probably will return back to opera, don't know about brave. Most likely I will use vivaldi and "migrate" to other browser little by little until I am become accustomed.
-
@Namal I am currently using Adguard which works fine as far as I can tell.
-
@Namal, as said, Mv2 is dead, same as Mv1 in 2013. Every browser will abandon Mv2 sooner or later, because there are no devs which will or can continuo working on 2 versions of their products for a long time, less if the cookie handling becomes obsolete in the webpages which use Google APIs (most).
So in this aspect it will be irrelevant to change the browser for this, it will be only a temporary solution.Apart the longer support of Mv2 in Opera, which in change spy direct on you, Brave sharing your data with it's sponsores, Crypto companies and Facebook and Mozilla, which depends on Alphabet Google and another Ad company don't make much sense.
Firefox and forks are still the most reliable alternative, but only if you don't use sync or sync using an third party service instead of Mozilla..
-
For all those who are going to leave Vivaldi because of the MV2 issue, I ask you:
If after 6 months of buying a fabulous car, you don't like the tire design it comes with from the factory, what do you do?
Do you sell the car or change the tires?
Yes, that's how ridiculous it looks. And of course, there is a strong feeling of embarrassment every time these “desires” to change browsers are posted.
-
We each have our values and priorities, and we are all different.
I for one will not leave Vivaldi over this issue. Seems to me a reasonable person will weigh the pros and cons, and see what is and what is not tolerable, before deciding what to do.
For me there is much to like and not much to dislike. And I am new enough that I suspect what I dislike is more my not yet figuring out how to do something. So for me the overall value of Vivaldi is very high.
Moreover, as much as I dislike ads, I believe "we" have the capacity to solve problems, or to find work-arounds.
-
@pilis3, I use the Vivaldi blocker and apart uBOlite, which works 100% even in YouTube.
On Desktop I use apart the Portmaster, which permits also to monitor and if needed also block any in- or outgoing traffic, adding to an exhaustive DNS filtering with even adaptive filters. So I'm very calm respect the bad habits and shady tricks of big corporations- without slowing down browsing speed.

……..but sometimes the ads manage to bypass.
Do not misinform by making claims without detailing the specific
siteslinks where it occurs.I have been testing uBOL and Adguard for 6 months and have not seen any ads.
Let's keep this a serious forum.
EDIT: Change sites for links (to be test it for others)

@barbudo2005
I left opera because they didn't allow me to use 'y' for the search engine I like..sooo -
@barbudo2005 your analogy is deeply flawed. it might be immaterial to you, but others are entitled to demur from your worthy opinion, if their value-sets differ from yours.
vivaldi lost me once it became clear they were never going to improve their inadequate-for-me tab management paradigm.
mv3
merely inserted the final nail in the coffin.it has nothing to do with bridgestone vs pirelli.

Nothing wrong with Vivaldi's tab handling. While I've seen add this add that none of those ideas truly need to be added to have a great browsing experience in Vivaldi with the current level of tab tandling features.

I thought MV3 extensions were supposed to get disabled in June 2025? And I will check out Portmaster, it seemed to me a bit bloated and complex, but perhaps this has been improved. I'm still using TinyWall and SpyShelter, but they don't block ads and trackers.
-
@RasheedHolland, AFAIK Mv2 will be desactivated with Chromium v139 soon, but until now uBO is still present in the Store and not blacklisted.
Anyway the Vivaldi blocker will continue working as it should and for YouTube with uBOlite is enough. Main problem are not the ads, but trackers and these are blocked perfect by Vivaldi itself. -

That's why I'm sticking with Viv 7.3, but apparantly Viv 7.5 is still safe to use also. And I have said it numerous of times before, but to me uBlock Lite is a joke.
-
@RasheedHolland, no. it isn't a joke. the Vivaldi blocker does agood job, except in YT and there uBOlite avoid that the adblocking is discovered.
Anyway I'm using YT less and less, for music I go to Bandcamp or Internet Radio, for movies official pages of public TV, Pluto TV or Rakuten free.
In YT cience and public politic channels which anyway don't have ads.The rest with the Portmaster on desktop, which also has several DNS crypt filters.

You need to be able to allow or disable certain scripts, and you need an element blocker. BTW, I use YouTube a lot on my smart TV, but on my PC I mostly use it for listening to music. It is however a ridiculously bad designed and bloated website though, such a shame.
