Find feature
-
One of the things crappy about chrome was the 'find' feature. 1. Most other browsers, if we highlight a word, and do an F3 or Ctrl+F, it would auto populate the search box with the highlighted word 2. When we find a word, when there are no matches, even to this date it has confused the heck out of me to see that it says 1 match found and waste my time looking all over the page to see where the match is, only to find that the match is the darn search box itself. 3. Another neat feature to have would be to start searching the page upon any letter being typed

When using F3 or Ctrl-F to open find bar and then typing ;-
#2 and #3 work for me in Vivaldi V1.2 release. -
1 is still an issue, not everyone loves typing especially when the word is right there, highlighted. Specially if it is a long sentence…hope you get the idea.
2. I revisited - seems fine like you said, it was a color mishap in the page I was in
3. still doesnt work (1.2.490.39) - is there a hidden setting to be changed ?

- Auto-populating the search field will no doubt come in due course. Meanwhile, it's very easy to work around with Ctrl C, Ctrl F, Ctrl V. Using Opera 12.17 I get around this by adding Find in page to my search engines, then I can select text, right-click, find in page. The benefit is that it does not replace the clipboard contents like Ctrl C does.
- I have never seen this issue
- It works if you open the find toolbar and start typing, not otherwise.

F3 should not open the Find Toolbar, which I have reported as a bug.
(VB-18100) Find in Page Toolbar Shows with F3 Find Next
-
It is not a bug. When there was nothing to find, it should show as a Find. Every browser and IDE/Editor works this way and many of us prefer it this way.

Either you misread my post or you're mistaken. When I press F3 (Find Next), if the search string exists it is found without opening any find dialogue. That is true in Notepad as well as in Opera 12.17 and Firefox.
If the search string is empty, or if I wish to type a new one, I will usually use Ctrl F, not F3. If F3 opens the Find Toolbar when the string is empty, that's not a problem, but if the string is not empty and it still opens the Find Toolbar, that is a bug.

Yes, I understood. Vivaldi does NOT currently do that (as Pesala noted).
That is why I replied only referring to the other two points - stating that they already work when the Find Bar is open (again as Pesala noted). -

I disagree quite strongly. It simply reactivates the "finding mode". In fact it's better to highlight what it's searching for than just do nothing if it can't find the cached string on the page - that would be quite confusing if you'd entered something some time ago and forgot about it: then hit F3 expecting to open the dialogue again and… nothing happens?! No - THAT would be a bug!

What it should do, if anything, is to inform the user that the string is not found. This is what happens in Notepad, which also gives a warning beep.

Other applications just give a warning beep if the search string is empty or if the search term is not found, which is sufficient to remind the forgetful user that they did not enter a search string.
Old Opera does nothing, which is not very user-friendly. Notepad opens the find dialogue if the search string is empty, which is a useful feature.

I like using F3 over using two keys so much that even in applications where F3 doesnt behave this way I look for ways to make it this way. I changed Np++ keys too.I'm sure smarter apps like IJ and Eclipse also do this if not I must have changed it.
And btw, latest FF DOES behave likewise F3==Find OR Find Next
Why have a key show an error OR do nothing when you can have it do something…that's just so negative...lol
If you dont like it, just change your key mapping and let's have the devs focus on more pressing issues.End of discussion; we can leave it to the powers that be to decide on this.
