High CPU usage when doing barely anything
-
@DoctorG I just tried the following:
-
Feeds enabled, but no feed added: CPU usage is normal (very low)
-
One feed added (https://downloadcenter.trendmicro.com/pull/feed/product/91?): CPU usage rises, see screenshot, and persists even if I remove the feed. Once the feed is removed, I need to relaunch Vivaldi to get back to normal.
-
Another feed added (https://www.cert.ssi.gouv.fr/avis/feed/): same behavior.
It doesn't seem to be related to these specific feeds, do you experience the same issue ?

-
@megosu All is nice on my 6.9.3447.37 Win 11 23H2.
Tested with 6.9.3447.37 and added as feeds:

Which CPU/GPU do you have?
Which external security/privacy tools? -
@DoctorG intel integrated GPU HD graphics 530
Trend Micro Apex One -

I asked for CPU/GPU because some users has such issue with AMD hardware.
Trend Micro Apex One
Perhaps blocks your security solution the feed scan/fetching.
Is Vivaldi used in a company environment?

Hi @DoctorG @mib2berlin ,
I tried several things:- disabling AV
- closing all my tabs and keeping only 1 workspace
- start with --disable-extensions
- start in Private mode
I always have the same issue.
Only time I have managed to avoid this issue, is to create a new profile.
My next move, is to try with my profile on another computer with a fresh install.
What else could I do to fix it ?
-
@megosu said in High CPU usage when doing barely anything:
My next move, is to try with my profile on another computer with a fresh install.
This only work partially, some files and folders are encrypted.
Do you use sync?
It's really the best method to start from scratch.
Sync your default profile, sync your second profile and test there.
If all is working there you can make it your default profile. -
@mib2berlin yes I use sync
-
@megosu
Ah ok, so you can sync your test profile and check it.
Maybe exclude extensions for the first time. -
Sometimes removing and re-adding of extensions had helped me in the past, happend very rare, with high CPU usage.
-
@DoctorG I thought about it, but it can't be the extensions, as it does it with --disable-extensions and in Private mode (which has no extension)
-
@mib2berlin
I'm trying on another computer with a fresh install, it has sync and the problem is not there.
However it hasn't sync my full history, it only starts from 13th of August 2024.
Is there any way to get it back ?My history set to keep forever so I don't understand why.
-
@megosu
You can copy the history file from your other system over.
If you get problems the history file is may corrupt.I never understand why the Vivaldi team allow "Forever", many user get issues with this hundreds of MB big file.
-
@mib2berlin what is the rule for history sync ? isn't it supposed to sync all of it ?
-
@megosu
I don't know how it exactly work but Vivaldi doesn't sync the whole history. -
@mib2berlin it works fine on the test computer, even with my 50MB history file.
what other file should I try to focus on to fix this issue ?
-
I also took screenshot of Vivaldi task manager before enabling Feeds and after.
idle wake ups are going through the roof instanty:Before enabling Feeds:

@megosu
To be honest, I would not trust this profile anymore.
You could try the file Preferences which contains a lot of stuff, settings, workspace names, mail accounts and much more.
Why don't you use your test profile on the same system, copy a profile from one system to another is not really recommended. -
@megosu
Is this on your old profile? -
@mib2berlin yes, it is my "old/current" profile
