Download Panel Confusion

  • I have installed 1.2.490.3 (Developer Build) (64-bit) and neither the download panel or notes panel are working. To see downloads I have set a bookmark for vivaldi://downloads. In today's snapshot it shows all kinds of refinements to the download panel. I haven't a clue on how to get that panel. If I try to check it on the View tab, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

There should be a black bar down the left (or right) side of your browser window. If not, turn on "show panel" in the view menu. On that bar is an icon that looks like a download symbol - the same icon you get when you create that bookmark. Click on that and you see the download panel. In Menu/Tools/Settings/downloads you can set that panel to open automatically every time you download something.

  • I did finally add the bookmarks to the panel, but manually. No matter how many times I tried through settings, nothing happened. So after researching further I discovered that I could add it by navigating to vivaldi://bookmarks and adding it by opening the panels and clicking on the plus sign. Voila.

You've added the downloads PAGE as a web panel, but your regular download PANEL (which shows different data from the download page) is still not working. That is not right.

It looks as though there is something wrong with your profile. Rename the "Default" folder at your Profile Path - C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Local\Vivaldi Snapshots\User Data\Default and see if your panels come aright.

  • You were absolutely correct, however, by changing the filename, I lost all my settings. I had the presence of mind yesterday to export my bookmarks so all I have to do is redo the settings and remember which extensions I use. Thanks for your help!

Just copy the bookmark file from the old to the new profile

Much of your data and settings (for instance, bookmarks, as mentioned by The_Solutor) can simply be copied from the old profile to the new, replacing the current files. HOWEVER, to the degree it makes sense to rebuild from the ground up, that would be the better plan, because that way you don't import the corruption from the old file. Be careful installing extensions, to give the browser a once-over after adding each one, in case you problem was caused by one of these.
