Same old New Window now opens faster – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3062.3

@EricJH I believe this is what portals are: https://react.dev/reference/react-dom/createPortal (but I cannot make much sense from this documentation page)
Though having someone from the Vivaldi Team explaining what portals are, why they are good for opening windows faster, and how they are going to allow addressing long-standing issues and feature requests sure would be nice.
Perhaps making detailed blog post about the subject would be helpful (cc: @daniel, @Ruarí)

when i saw this snappie was not helmed by @Ruarí i drew the entirely logical conclusion that @jon had finally instigated his ruthless total ban on unicycles, & sent him on his way, to work in the tearoom at otterbrowser. it was thus a clever use of chatgpt to fake him in the posts above, in order to fool the gullible masses here...
Known Issues
Guest Windows gets stuck loading forever.forever, huh? that's a pretty long time. how come it was possible to finalise that time & write it here? how do you know it was not merely something more finite, like only a bajillion years? truth in advertising!
-
@ybjrepnfr Close enough to "forever": No UI, menu control doesn't work; even quitting from Persons drop-down merely closes the profile from which the Guest Window was launched....
-
@ybjrepnfr You do know that on these forums "forever" is ~20 seconds ??
-
@TbGbe you took longer than forever for that riposte.
-
@ybjrepnfr Too many eels

Thanks for the information but given that I am not a web or other developer I have no real clue. I do however concur with your request for a detailed blog post about it; it's interesting stuff.

@mib2berlin The browser (two profiles open...); I don't suppose a crash report would help -considering this is but a snapshot- but there is one.
Moving the page (tab context menu...) left the window with a duplicate of the last page of the window moved to... Very strange!

@OakdaleFTL A crash when closing a window while multiple profiles are open is a known bug.
VB-98511 - Vivaldi crashes when trying to close one of the profiles
I experienced it myself a few days ago, but it is hard to reproduce. The best way to help is to come up with a good set of steps to get the bug to occur. As in how to take 2 clean profiles that aren't experiencing the crash with window closing and get them to start experiencing the issue. Only then can it be fixed.
While pure speculation, what I think fixed it for me when I was experiencing it was to open a new window in the 2nd profile. I was then able to close windows normally.

Huh! Just tried it: Works for me too. (Still strange, though! )
Thought it might have had something to do with Guest Window glitch... Two fresh profiles created; couldn't recreate before or after trying that.
(The Ghost Guest Window remains after closing both new profiles...)
So: Can't reproduce.

@daniel: Heey, man! Welcome! When did you land here at Vivaldi team?
-
@daniel: hahahahahahahahahah. Yes, it's always hard the first time
-
Would it be possible to add an option to remove the "dropdown icon" from the Vivaldi Menu button? I hate it. So much that I had to change to the other "Menu icon".
-
What's wrong with the fonts in the snapshots lately (I can't pinpoint at what version things have changed)?
Check the screenshots, both Stable (light theme) and Snapshot (dark theme) have the same font settings but still use different fonts. I don't like the font used in the Snapshot, it's too "crisp".
Why are the used fonts different when settings are the same?
EDIT: Using Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3.

@Tealing
Hi, these are webpage fonts, not the UI fonts, you cant change them.
Comic Sans on Linux?I don´t like the drop down menu icon but many user cant even find the Vivaldi menu.
By the way, if you use workspaces you have two of them and nothing is aligned correctly.Tab text is to low, dropdown of workspaces to high, the whole Vivaldi icon is to high, hrm.
Anyway, should such glitches reported to the bug tracker?Cheers, mib
