@DoctorG Problem solved thanks to the Arch Wiki. Had to add a couple of things to my iceWm startup file
---dbus-update-activation-environment --all &
gnome-keyring-daemon --start --components=secretsAlso added "--password-store=gnome" to the vivaldi-stable startup.
All passwords now being saved. stored and downloaded upon startup.
Thanks to all for suggestions and links

I recently reported a bug where Vivaldi loses the e-mail account passwords between sessions. This could be related. I've added the link to this thread to my bug report.

I have since discovered the problem only occurs when I do not use a desktop environment such as Gnome or Mate. Normally I use Icewm window manager by itself and it is there the problem occurs. Gnome will tell me the login keyring was not opened when I logged in and ask me for the password, Mate does a similar thing. When the login keyring is opened, Vivalsi will show saved passwords. Does anyone know how I cam setup Icewm to either open the login keyrin, or ask me for the password ?

@mccfrank I'm curious as to whether the issues we are having are related to the desktop environment. Previously, I used LXDE, LXQt and XFCE and had no issues with any of these regarding losing saved passwords between sessions.
-
Definitely related to desktop environment. If I use Gnome, Mate or any of the well known desktops the problem does not exist. Its related to the login keyring but I have no idea have to run that login-keyring program (whatever it is) when I do not run a desktop environment. If you do a google search on the problem you will find hundreds of example of people having similar problems, not only with Vivaldi but with other chromium based browsers.
-
@mccfrank If you want a encrypted login database for Vivaldi, you need a keyring.
OK, you can set login database to a unprotected (plain text store) by a command line parameter.
https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/master/docs/linux/password_storage.mdSuch parameter can be used in a vivaldi.desktop file and added in mime-type associations for Vivaldi app.

@DoctorG Great explanation of how it works, but nothing in there solves my problem with Vivaldi when not using a Desktop Environment such as Gnome or Mate. I need to find a way to open the login keyring when using a plain window manager. Thanks for the link.

@mccfrank Some examples to use GNOME keyring and how to unlock https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GNOME/Keyring

@mccfrank Initially, I had the KDE Wallet turned off. In one of the Linux distros in my signature below, the KDE Wallet option isn't even listed in the System Settings. Even with Wallet now turned on (which I still believe only applies to website passwords), I am still occasionally losing the e-mail account passwords between Vivaldi sessions.

@edwardp Sorry I don't use Vivaldi mail so I have no idea of it's problems. Perhaps someone else can help ?
