Lost My Side Panel

I used to have a narrow panel at the left-hand side of my browser window. Now, I can't get it back without including the wide panel next to it. What is the narrow panel called and how can I get it back?
In other words, I want the narrow column at the left that starts with the bookmark icon. I don't want the "calendar" space (or any other).

@mitchnf F4 reveals the panel bar. Clicking on the icon representing the panel you are looking at closes that panel.

@mitchnf In other words, you have the calendar panel open. Click on the calendar icon and it will close.

@Ayespy Thank you. But when I hit the calendar icon, the whole panel closes, including the vertical strip. And when I hit F4, it opens "Spotlight Search." Anything else?

@mitchnf You are on Mac, which I don't use, and other Mac users may have some input for you, but that is not the way the browser is designed, making me think you have made CSS mods or installed an extension which is changing something.
There is the panel bar toggle which opens and closes the bar, and if the bar is open, it displays whatever panel may also be open. If no panels are open, the bar should always be shown by itself.

@mitchnf For one thing, "Spotlight Search" has nothing to do with Vivaldi. How did you get it on your panel bar?

@Ayespy Spotlight Search is not in panel, it's just a keyboard button. Where is the "panel bar toggle" you referenced? I feel like that's my problem.

@mitchnf It used to be located on the Status Bar, but recent updates have moved it to the Address/URL bar. If you do not see it there (looks like a square with a vertical line through the left third of it), you can put it there by editing the toolbar. Do you know how to edit the toolbar?

@Ayespy We're getting closer. When I click the icon you mentioned, the panel does open up, but with content. It used to be blank, only the narrow vertical strip was visible. It sounds like I'll just have to keep it closed until I need it. Is there a foolproof way of editing the panel so as to eliminate any content. If not, okay, I'll just change a habit. Thanks for the guidance.

@mitchnf The panel bar is there in order to make panels available. It has icons on it for that purpose. I can be open/visible permanently even if no panels are open. When you say "content," are you talking about an open panel? Or are you talking about the fact that the bar has panel icons on it? Without these, the bar is totally pointless.

@Ayespy It's all fine now. I just have to retrain myself to look for the panel icon whenever I need to open settings, etc, instead of it being visible all the time. Thanks much.

@mitchnf It should be visible all the time if that's what you want. Mine is. I don't understand why yours would not be unless you have it set to floating panel and hide inactive panel
