[Issue] GMail IMAP timeout
-
After configuring an account via OAuth2 I keep getting
[[email protected]]Timeout connecting to server 10:57:27.640
errors and no mail is displayed.Has anyone had this issue before?
P.S. : My full email is on both
username
fields but I've taken that out for the purpose of this screenshot. The connection failed before and I've removed the account so that I may add in back since I thought this would fix it, but it didn't.
The same email account works flawlessly in Thunderbird at this very moment.

@Soromeister That truly is weird. I have the exact same setup as you with my gmail account and have no issue using 0Auth. Can you authenticate without 0Auth?
-
@Tetsuosumo Yes, I can log in via the regular GMail authentication. There isn't an option to do it nowadays with simply using username and password since Google has disabled this feature:
I have tried this with my personal
@gmail.com
email instead of using my work email and the issue still occurs even on Windows, not just macOS.To better explain the issue:
- I have a company-owned GMail-hosted email address like
[email protected]
- I use Okta to log into GMail for that
- I can only log in via OAuth in other mail clients (other than the regular Web UI)
- I also have a personal
[email protected]
email, where I can log in via regular user + password at google.com - Neither accounts synchronize after being added to Vivaldi Mail and they both default to OAuth login since
Less Secure app access
feature is now completely unavailable - Both accounts work absolutely fine in Thunderbird at the time or writing this
- This used to work before, i.e. last week without issues. I suspect something is broken in the integration between Vivaldi and GMail. I've given it the permissions when being asked to so it's not something fixable on my end
- Calendar works fine in both accounts (it gets connected to WebDAV)
- I have a company-owned GMail-hosted email address like
-
So if I understand you you've tried enabling imap and configured app password in Gmail for your accounts?
Otherwise use this guide
-
@Tetsuosumo The problem is that mail doesn't come through. It should work just fine via OAuth instead of using something less secure like App Passwords.

@Soromeister Do you have any servers running on the machine?
Sounds like it might be an issue with Okta and not gmail or vivaldi
-
@Soromeister One must create a project with their Google account now, in order to use OAuth2 with Gmail.
-
@edwardp That is completely unnecessary and OAuth works just fine on Google without enabling anything.
I found the culprit of the issue. If your profile isn't under
Default
folder, Mail simply won't work. After completely eradicating my Vivaldi profile and removed any remnant files, I re-installed and all seems to be working now. This issue is also happening in combination of some sessions which are restored, so adding a new account after a session restore AND having the profile folder under anything else other thanDefault
will cause Mail to not work. -
@Soromeister Good to know it's working for you now.
I was looking for the Google page (it was online at some point) where it mentioned creating a project, but couldn't find it, not even using Google.
If it's not necessary, all the better.

Happy to hear the issue is resolved.

@Tetsuosumo, @edwardp I've opened
VB-97406
for this issue, hoping to see this fixed in the next couple (stable) releases.
