That Friday feeling – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3009.3
-
can't change icons in workspaces.
Just changes to that workspace and i got a brief show of the icon panel.
-
@zikkeratak A known issue. Fixed in internal 3013.x, wait for next Snapshots to get it.
-
@doctorg: my bad... didn't read that part
-
just like all snappies before,
6.1.3009.3
continues the fine tradition of necro-fetching feeds like a proper b@stard. tis exasperating.
and again
and yet again
bleedin' 'eck!
-
@ybjrepnfr I've raised this issue as well. Supposedly it's working as intended because the developers imagine you would want all copies of an article if it were changed by the publisher. But mostly, editors of news sites and YouTube videos just change the titles to make them more or less clickable, which leads to this annoying outcome where you get loads of duplicates.
I do wish they would fix this, because even though silently dropping feeds probably isn't according to the official feeds spec, I have not experienced any other feed reader that behaves this way.
-
@LonM thank you! fwiw, in that pic, the latest incarnation of that feed had indeed been tweaked by guardian australia [additional metadata added (& subject line edited), albeit the actual video itself was unchanged]. however, the second-latest version, ie, the initial necro-fetch, was identical in all respects. this is the scenario i encounter most commonly when vivaldi necro-fetches; no actual change. it really does give me the screaming heebie jeebies, coz each time it wastes minutes of my time, needing to compare & contrast, to make sure it's genuinely a clone that i can safely delete, or alternatively [but more rarely, for me] a genuinely altered version with which i need to engage.
in other respects i find much to commend about vivaldi's native feeds tool, but this incessant necro-fetching commonly tempts me to yet again re-enable the
feedbro
extension [or, indeed, reconsider possibly returning to... an "unnamed alternative browsing experience solution" ]. -
@LonM sadly the spec technically does not really define that articles with the same
guid
have to be displayed uniquely, but definitely that they are the same article. The procedure of republishing is often used for updating links or correcting content in Podcast-feeds, where this behavior is also annoying.
Notes to Devs
If it's only about "keeping the previous versions"; the UI definitely has support for threaded views.
Albeit simply adding aIn-Reference-To
behavior would still show updates in the wrong perceived priority, it should be an improvement to the current state nonetheless. -
Hi all !
For some unknown reasons, I can't open multiple pop up windows anymore since this version.. Am I the only one ? I mean, if I try to open the settings and then try to open another different pop up window, it won't open the last one... And if I do the other way around (opening the different pop up window and then the settings), I've got the same result... And funny fact, at some point, both content of the pop up windows will end up merging on single one ... or crash the browser...

@Nakottih Any test case for us?

Sorry, new to this... What other information do you need ?

@Nakottih On which page can i see issue you suffer from?
My product is a full web-based software, which opens lots of pop-up windows. Actually, everytime I try to open on separated page either nothing happens or vivaldi crashes...
As you can see, I've got one window, but on the left part the grey area is supposed to display my pop-up window from my product, and on the right, those are the settings...
On the top of the page, I still have the buttons to close, reduce the page... -
@Nakottih Hi, crashing when popup windows call other windows is a known bug in 6.0/6.1 and will be fixed soon, possibly in next snapshot.
Simple test case, will crash Vivaldi when the button is clicked in the popup:
https://pathduck.github.io/test/window-open-crash/I still don't understand how Vivaldi's Settings window is related to this though, and I don't understand your screenshot. How is Vivaldi's settings related to this issue?
What OS is that, why do you have half the window as Settings and the other blank and what is this weird thing?

Hi !
The setting page was just an example.
I went back to the previous snapshot version and this issue doesn't occure... Well, I guess I'll just skip this version then...
Thanks for the help ! -
@Nakottih We need more details to know exactly what you're talking about.
A simple repro case is best, or a URL where it happens.
I went back to the previous snapshot version and this issue doesn't occure
So it started with this Snapshot only? If so it's not the general crashing bug I talked about but something else and it would be good to get information so it can be reproduced.
Well, I guess I'll just skip this version then...
We are testing Snapshots to find and report bugs in a way that be be reproduced and fixed by the developers, not to get access to the "latest features". Skipping versions or going back is completely pointless when you're testing Snapshots. If you want stability, use Stable.

https://pathduck.github.io/test/window-open-crash/Tested the test case. Open popups in a tab (my setting) doesn’t crashes the browser, open as popup crashes it.
Edit: I don’t seem to get Crash-Logs, even not with this test case? Why this?

@Pathduck
Sorry for the late answer !So, I can confirm that this is only related to this snapshot version.
To answer your questions in the order you asked :
OS : Windows 11
Half the window as Settings : so basically, the expected behaviour is of course to display a separated window when opening the Settings window, but, as far as you can witness, when I click on the toothed wheel icon, nothing happens at first (if another pop-up window is ALREADY displayed - just noticed that).
So, I try to open another pop-up window from my web-based solution, just to check whether the issue is only related to the vivaldi settings page or not, but two possibilities so far can be observed : it will either open normally the page OR it will not respond (I mean nothing is happening).
Final step : I close all the open pop-up windows and re-open either one or the other to finally stumble upon the screenshot I sent here, with the split screen (observed multiple times)."Weird (icon) thing" : extension allowing me to manage multiple monitors. It has always been functionnal with Vivaldi/Snapshots versions so far. I don't think it has nothing to do with this...
Thanks for your interest !

I have a very weird glitch with tab thumbnails on one of my computers with this version:
-
@Nakottih I still have no clue how to reproduce this, I've tested in a clean profile and opening several popup windows along with settings, no such issue appears.
What I suggest now:
- Make a simple test case site (Github/JSFiddle etc), that makes the issue appear similar to your website that causes this.
- Recreate the issue from a clean profile in Vivaldi, without adding any extensions and only changing the necessary settings to make it happen (you'll have to experiment here)
- Write up a Step-by-Step (important!) report how to reproduce this as simply as possible
- Report a bug on https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/ using the step-by-step guide
- Create a new topic on the forum reporting your findings and the VB-number you got - the snapshot topic will be closed when a new release is out
