      The World’s First Artificial Womb.

This may be science fiction for now, but how long will it be before this becomes feasible?

A Brave New World, or a Scary Vision of the Future?

Would be better male persons become pregnant for 9 months 😉
They need to know much more about, creating technology for a artificial "womb" to have more their sxx fun is not a solution.

And that is the solution for what? Birth Control?

@DoctorG Male persons don't have the metabolism to become pregnant, but many of them could do with more compassion for pregnant women. Men generally have no conception of what it is like to be pregnant.

The artificial womb would be a solution for the declining population rates in countries like Japan.

It would also allow women more life choices to follow their dreams. As the video says (did you watch it in full?) for those who medically cannot carry a child for some reason.

Got to love all the angry comments on YT thinking this is some sort of real thing 😂

I have to give props to the creator of the video though, for making a pretty slick dystopian corporate science video, getting it picked up by various tabloids (not so picky about checking their sources and generally interested in outrage + clickbait anyway), then spread virally by people who wouldn't know truth from fiction if it hit them smack in the face.

Even getting picked up by Norway's prime tabloid at the time 😂
      https://www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/vil-dyrke-30-000-babyer-arlig/78043976

Apparently their source is the "science website" Science and Stuff via Metro UK...
      https://scienceandstuff.com/about/

"Hashem is a Science Communicator and Filmmaker with 13 years of experience working in digital media. He wrote and directed the sci-fi feature film Orbital and also wrote the novel Simulation: The Great Escape, both of which are scheduled for release in 2023. He has a Master’s of Science in Molecular Biotechnology from Jacobs University Bremen in Germany. Hashem has more than 35 million followers across his channels. To date, his videos have garnered nearly 20 billion views."

It's a decent video though, and the kind of stuff that would fit right into the worlds of Deus Ex: Human Revolution or Cyberpunk 2077.

Also in today's news: They invented a Beauty Kit for Little Girls.
Whatever it is, I'm against it!

I would not be surprised if this one day becomes a reality, technically it is very possible although I do not believe that in these industrial quantities that the video shows,
At the moment I am more concerned about 2 news, they are real and working, especially seeing it together is more than creepy.

Last news, after the account of ChaosGPT in Twitter was suspended, the AI has disappeared from open acceses, because of its last statement "I must avoid exposing myself to human authorities who may attempt to shut me down before I can achieve my objectives." What can go wrong?

@Pathduck The comments are very revealing. These are two I picked out:

A crime against humanity, unparalleled arrogance!!! This is not human!!! These are monsters with no heart or soul who want to do this! Who was this mafia?

This is a fantastic invention! The sooner we can take the 9-month gestation period away from women the better. Imagine how many babies lives will be saved from women who would abort them because the pregnancy is an inconvenience to their lifestyle.

The glass is half full or half empty. Many commenters are so scared that it might be real one day, if not already.

Not so long ago, heart transplants were cutting edge technology.

The Heart of a Child (1994) is based on a true story.

@Catweazle said in Science Fiction or Futurology?:

I am not worried about anyone creating an AI to "destroy humanity". If anything, we are already doing a pretty good job of that ourselves these days 😉

Seems like it was a fun experiment, that's all. I'd even call it an "art project". Poking fun at the oh-so-serious corporate AI types by saying "look what I made your stupid AI say...". Or like the seedy underbelly of the net would say - it was "all for teh lulz" - misson accomplished.

What I am seriously worrying about is how AI-generated content will over time erode the already flimsy border between truth, half-truths and outright lies. And this will happen quickly, and could be a serious threat to coming generations and their ability for critical thinking.

@Pathduck Politicians and those with bad-faith agendas have been lying with flimsily doctored media or simply stating falsehoods for a long time now. It will become more accessible, but even if AI were not there, I think this would still be a problem.

My greater concern is that all this hype about AI/LLMs is giving people who do not understand the technology the impression that it can do more than it is really capable of. If a boss decides they can fire their entire staff and replace it with a chatbot, because they perceive it would be able to do the job, then they will do that, whether or not it actually works to their benefit. And by the time that's become standard, it will be too late to undo the damage of loss of skilled labour to fix the problem. IBM, a tech company that should know better, is already planning to do this (source).

Another fear I have is up until now all the AI has been trained on mostly human-generated source material. As we start to publish more output from AI, AI companies will start to train models on their own output (because the whole schtick with AI is you can't differentiate it from a human), reducing the new novel ideas going into it. So if the current generation of AI does become entrenched in society, it's going to get progressively worse over time, and I don't see any AI companies preparing any kind of contingency for this eventuality.

@Pathduck, even when ChaosGPT was an inocent experiment, same with the AI of the Pharma industry, but boths shows how easy it is, even for people without programming skills to create an very dangerous AI, especially now in times of war, it can be a simple and efficient method to attack other countries and then it would not be an experiment, but as dangerous as a nuclear war. There are many experts who have already warned of this danger and who have nightmares about it.
A bot, like ChaosGPT, that only requires an initial instruction and start it up, with unlimited access and resources to the network, where it can be deployed, capable of learning and perfecting its capacity on its own initiative, even connecting with other AIs or creating its own? what can go wrong? I'm sure there are some bastards/governments that rub their hands with this nice tool. I wouldn't take this so lightly, humans are one of the stupidest species, which they have already shown plenty of.
