Not sure if this a question about audio codecs or Nahimic (and their "Easy Surround-function" that let's one use 1 extra BT speaker as makeshift surround system)...

When testing I'm able to get surround sound from that extra BT-speaker from every codec in the test (5.1 + 7.1) but not from but YouTube: They are totally unable to utilize Nahimic's Easy Surround ๐Ÿ˜ž

      Fraunhofer 5.1 testing page: https://www2.iis.fraunhofer.de/AAC/multichannel.html

(I've tried som simple stuff like: "--try-supported-channel-layouts" plus "--disable-audio-output-resampler" which did nothing... and both at once which gave a permanent "beeeep-ing noise." )

I'm guessing this has something to do with the codec that Youtube use, or...?

        Hi,

Test on other Browsers and on Vivaldi's Clean Profile if works on the others.

@Totto Hi - far as I know YT only does stereo. A quick search found:

"YouTube's 5.1 surround sound is only available for streaming TV and movie content, unlike the typical YouTube videos (which only feed audio into two channels). Moreover, it won't be available on every show or movie you watch."
          https://www.makeuseof.com/enable-51-surround-sound-youtube-tv/

Only for YouTube TV, only on compatible devices:
          https://support.google.com/youtubetv/answer/7067974#audio_requirements

All the "HD audio surround Atmos" videos you might find on YT are basically clickbait scams for audiophiles who "think" they hear surround in their "surround headphones" ๐Ÿ˜‚

@Pathduck Yeah the only Dolby Atoms videos I have seen are at a friends house and it was thought the Youtube app on the TV (a Sony TV with Google OS of some sort) and there was a change in audio to what speaker it was playing out of (the TV had more than 3 speakers set up with it. Tho still most content on Youtube is not in Atmos or other surround sound.

Youtube is beta testing AV1 to replace VP9 in the future.

            Why Open the Web?

Despite the connecting purpose of the Web, it is not entirely open to all of its users.
When used correctly, HTML documents can be displayed across platforms and devices.
However, many devices are excluded access to Web content.

thx again for replying back @Pathduck :

& understood: It is the codec. (My fault for thinking Nahimic was making up som sort of a "fake" surround sound..)
