Escaping full screen off a video takes the browser out of the full screen view
Something that I would really love to be sorted out. I watch a lot of video orientated content and I go full screen on the video. When I press the escape key, the browser fully goes out of the full screen mode, usually when I use chrome this never happnes. I tried double clicking into the video to make it full screen and double clicking out to get out of full screen on a video I am watching and the URL bar, tabs and bookmarks go away completely unless I get the browser out of full screen mode and go back into full screen mode. This rather annoying and I would love for this weird bug to be fix. So far that's the only complaint I have about this browser, other than that, this is a really well built, unique browser.
Is this a issue with Youtube videos? We have some reports about this.
It is happening through YouTube videos, but it also happens in other streaming services.
This also happens with popups on webpages like facebook, i.e. the "who has birthdays today" window. Kind of annoying to in and out of fullscreen all the time. Should be an option to turn it off entirely. CTRL+CMD+F is enough
Registered just to +1 this FR – is there another way to close the
Find in Pagebox other than hitting Escape? Because it both closes the
Findbox and also exits fullscreen every time.
There is a bug report about this issue (VB-8969); Actually, there are multiple duplicate ones, but that one is the "master" one. I would think the easiest way to fix this issue would be to just generally disable Esc as a shortcut for exiting OS X's fullscreen mode. That's how Firefox and Chrome behave.
Safari has a more sophisticated handling where Esc only causes fullscreen mode to exit if it is not "used up" by another function (e.g., closing "Search in Page", exiting YouTube's native video fullscreen mode, etc.), but that would probably be far more difficult to implement than just disabling Esc for exiting fullscreen mode.
You can click on the "x" button next to the "Find in Page" box to close it, but you likely already knew that and you would have to use the mouse for that, which is sometimes inconvenient. I don't think there is a shortcut other than Esc to close it via keyboard. Maybe it would be a bit less annoying if you reactivated fullscreen mode via ⌃⌘F instead of having to click on the little green dot with the mouse?
Alternatively, you could create a Keyboard Maestro macro that clicked on that "x" button and map that macro to ⇧⌘F or so. I do these kind of things a lot, because I have a low tolerance for things not working the way I want, but for many people that may be a bit too involved.
