Browser came up completely blank
-
After booting my computer this morning I started Vivaldi and it came up blank. No tabs. No history. No first website. No start page. I haven't shut it down because in previous browsers that made tab recovery harder. How do I recover?
Also during startup I got the message that a new version of Vivaldi is available and I clicked on the announcement. It showed the change history of the new version as the browser came up blank. I hope that's a timing coincidence.
I don't remember what I did that caused a second Vivaldi browser to open. That did show my start page. But no tabs.
I started looking at Vivaldi help in that browser. But I'm on Chrome right now and won't touch either Vivaldi browser window until I hear what to do.

Vivaldi Backup | Reset + Extra Steps -
Thanks for your reply.
The website you linked to was how to reset Vivaldi, losing all my Vivaldi data, which is not what I want to do. It seems it did a reset for me.
As for the rest of your response, I think you meant I should go to the system start and search for "Vivaldi". I forgot to mention before I'm on Windows 7. I did a system search and it showed me a search.htm file, but not for Vivaldi.
As for the "Win+R" and following I wasn't sure what to do with that. Entering it into the system start search didn't find anything useful. More details please?

The link points to the Bckp, just above Reset.
On keyboard do those steps
Win R
And type %AppData% -
This post is deleted! -
Alas, backup doesn't do me a lot of good now since all my Vivaldi data has already disappeared. I promise I will learn about backup once my data is restored.
You suggest I type on my keyboard, but which window should have focus? Typing that in the system start search window didn't find anything.
-
Ok,
The Bckp is related to find where and what is your data.Being that you had that problem, before run V again you should back up your profile to avoid possible problems.

With the Keyboard do the mentioned steps.
Will appear a left down window/run
There type the %AppData%
Then Intro -
Look For Vivaldi in
That Roaming folder
And then go up to Local
Search there too.The path depends on the Installation type.
-
You would go to using Chrome
Type chrome:://about in its address bar, search below for Profile
They would share the same til 3 folders up, then split into its own.Like Program Files
Roaming
Local -
I didn't see under users\Owner\AppData\Roaming a folder for Vivaldi.
I do see AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data.
However, under that I don't see a folder named Profile. Do I copy the whole 1.4G of data?
And once copied, then what?
-
Good
Find out Cache Folders and remove them
It would strip down to 400Mb +/- or lessProfile is that Folder User data/Default
But keep the whole UserData. After the bckp, we can continue to run V.
What's the version?
Stable? -
I knew where to get the version number -- under Help -> About. Ah, that's where the Profile Path is!
The version: 5.6.2867.58 (Stable channel) (64-bit).
Backup copying in progress.

I've understood no work at all aside from blank.
So from there we would get the path.
So,
Is the showing path pointing to where?
Default
Or
Profile#
? -
The Vivaldi About shows the Profile Path as C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default -- right where I found it.
Backup done.

I had said I wasn't sure what made a second Vivaldi window. When it opened I only saw the start page. Before shutting it down I thought I had better check the sidebar that holds the list of tabs.
Much to by delight and relief all the tabs were there! I only had to move the active ones up from the closed tabs section. I'm back in business.
Thanks for all your help. Through your efforts I learned a few things and that's always good.
Now to go read that document about backup.
-
Ok,
Blank means "New"?Go to User Profile
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/user-profiles/How many appears?
-
Ok,
Yes,Sometimes happens the 2 or even 3 windows.
Yep,
Good to know how to find and backup.--
Actually,
You are on W7 and this OS will be deprecated from Chromium Project.Current Vivaldi Snapshot stopped working on W7,
So,
I suggest you to disable AutoUpdate and take a look at the forum till know whether update in next version or keep your current til decide whether stay on W7, or upgrade either to Windows 10/11 or Linux.By the way
