Further address bar fixes – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2887.3
-
@gbt20317: You can click the bookmark icon again to open the dialog, or enable "Settings > Bookmarks > Always Open Bookmark Dialog" to have it open every time, restoring the previous behavior.

At this particular point in time I'm really frustrated with the latest snapshot version of the windows version of the browser that's currently installed on my windows 11 pro 64-bit pc (5.7.2887.3 (Official Build) (64-bit) . Virtually all of my saved sites on my speed dial page are not being displayed properly, I find this behavior strange due to the fact that all of my speed dial saved sites are still showing in my bookmarks area. The only way that I know how to correct this issue is to basically start from scratch which I'm not really wanting to do at this point in time. I was hoping by me signing out of my account and syncing everything again would correct my issue but it didn't, quite frankly I can't remember having this happen in the past. But since I still enjoy using vivaldi I'll just have to decide what action to perform next, and at least for me I still also have the address bar dropdown arrow not functioning issue that some other users have been complaining about as well.

@Davy49 The dropdown does only work if you have typed addresses before. Yes, it is not easy to know why the button is gray.
What is broken for your Speed Dial page? How does it look?
-
DoctorG,
As always thanks so very much in your efforts to help not only myself but all of the other people seeking help as well. I'm enclosing a screenshot of what I'm currently seeing. Merry Christmas
David! -
@Davy49 I remember some older Vivaldi Stables/Snapshot i had such issues when i synced bookmarks.
In your case really strange as the Bookmarks data file should contain all thumbnails of sites you had added. Or had you set a user-defined image instead of teh page thumb for bookmarks?
Does F5 on Speed Dial and its sub folders help to refresh the thumbnails?
-
Sync removed my thumbs on my Snapshot and Stable, too. Nasty issue!
Sync should never touch them.Seems to be this in Changelog:
[Sync] Synchronize custom bookmark thumbnail metadata (VB-93139) -
@DoctorG
While viewing the screenshot that I enclosed in my previous message you can see that some of my saved sites aren't even displaying a bookmark icon in some the speed dial categories. I've never faced anything such as this since I've been using the vivaldi browser, it's SO very frustrating. And of course since I'm not a software developer, I'm really beginning to wonder if there's some kind of issue with the sync mechanism, I'm tempted to install the latest stable version of the browser.
David -
@Davy49 I think you should not use a Snapshot version, a Snapshot is more for testers.
-
@DoctorG
Up until now I've never had any issues while using a snapshot version, I'm currently using a different windows 11 computer with the latest snapshot version installed on it. As a test I'm going to install the stable version and see if that makes any difference at all.

Please install 5.6 Stable not over 5.7 Snapshot, the versions differ and can cause other issues because of browser profile data.

@DoctorG
I completely uninstalled the snapshot version that I had installed, and now have this version installed: 5.6.2867.50 (Stable channel) (64-bit) , unfortunately I have the exact same issue with my speed dial page in the stable version as i was with the snapshot version.
David
Quick Update: Up until now I'm proud to say that I've never had to create an additional person to try & see if it would fix any issues I was having, but on this particular occasion I thought that I would and I'm at least so far glad that i did because my copy of this great browser is usable once again.

Not for all it seems, my custom thumbnails on Stable are still just fine.
-
@jumpsq: Yes, it would also be nice to get a preview of buttons. Right now it only previews colours and window background images.

I wish that I could say the same thing concerning my thumbnail images on my speed dial, and what's even worse is the fact that on some of my folders on speed dial they aren't showing any kind of content, but the saved content is showing in the bookmarks area.

It seems that a recent Snapshot has broken buttons in range controls for the Zoom slider placed on the Navigation Bar. The controls on the Status Bar are OK.
UI Zoom is set to 100%

[Themes] Background Resets after Reboot (VB-85062)
This bug was marked as fixed two snapshots ago, but I would like to point out that it doesn't seem to be fully fixed yet.
On some reboots, the theme background is remembered, but on other reboots it is not.
I cannot figure out how or why it only happens every other reboot now.
(FYI, this only affects default themes that have been edited to use a custom background).

Hi Everyone,
Rather than getting more & more frustrated about some items not functioning properly in the latest snapshot version I took the advice of a by the name of 'DoctorG' & completely uninstalled the snapshot version & then installed the latest stable version & at least so far this version does in fact seem to actually be more 'stable' (no pun intended of course).
Merry Christmas To Each And EveryoneDavid

Paste and Go works like a page refresh if the buffer contains part of the address. For example, page "vivaldi.com" is open and buffer is "vald". It's a pity that this annoying bug hasn't been fixed for so long.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that my bug report (VB-93768) was addressed. However ... every time I start the snapshot fresh, there is a dark edge to the side of the browser window. I tried minimizing the window to the taskbar, then opening up the window again. The dark edge was gone. Can you guys continue to investigate this? Seems your fixing the initial bug turned up another bug, unfortunately. I've also done a graphic (see below) to illustrate the problem. Thanks for your work on Vivaldi. Gonna tag a few people here to try and ensure this nagging issue is taken care of (soon, hopefully). Thanks! @Ruarí @atlemo @miky @mib2berlin
