Heavy disk activity

  • I can't use Vivaldi on Windows anymore. As soon as it is started, heavy disk activity goes on. Even after closing Vivaldi, 2 processes stay active, still causing heavy disk IO. After killing the 2 remaining Vivaldi processes the disk is quiet again. This behavior is reproducible and only occurs on Windows (here 7), no issues on Linux.

  • Hi,

    I'm not sure if it helps, but try this:

    1. Close Vivaldi (all processes)
    2. Delete these files in your Vivaldi profile:
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Top Sites
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Top Sites-journal

    ```3) Start Vivaldi
    I know that these 2 files caused crazy HDD usage in some releases or after update.
    If it won't help try to use this tool -> [Process Monitor](https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processmonitor.aspx). You can use it to check what files are read/write while there's huge usage.
  • Thanks a lot.
    Indeed these files where shown in resource monitor with heavy IO.
    I deleted them.
    They came right back after restart, but all is quiet now.
    I'll have an eye on it.
  • You're welcome, and I'm glad it helped.
    After delete, new files are recreated and works just fine most of the time. It is common problem from time to time I guess, that some inconsistencies appear. So it's first thing I check when I see that something is "killing" my SSD.
