Mail client has completely disappeared
-
Hi all, the mail client has completely disappeared. I closed and re-opened Vivaldi, and then I rebooted my computer. Still gone. I can use the "Create an Email" option in the menu, but the inbox is still gone. I'm using Ventura 13.01. You can see it's missing from the task bar on the left and bottom:

More info:
Upgraded Vivaldi to the latest stable release. Mail is still missing.
Downloaded the snapshot release, and with the clean install of that mail returned (although none of my settings seemed to migrate over).
-
@jakedfw The Vivaldi Stable and Snapshot installations are independent of each other.
On your Stable installation, did you happen to uncheck "Enable Mail, Calendar and Feeds" in Preferences, which would have disabled the mail client?
-
I did not disable it in the UI. In fact, if you look at the bar screenshot, you can see the calendar and tasks icon, but not the mail icon!
Fun fact: I moved my Mac OS environment to a new environment for unrelated reasons, and the mail icon returned. It has to be related to some configuration file that was changed just for email in some way.
Anyway, problem solved due to the environment change.

Oh, one other thing: if you have multiple Vivaldi windows open, the mail client will only be available in one of those windows.
-
It disappeared again! Going to stick with the snapshot, which ironically appears a lot more stable and I haven't had a thing go wrong with.
-
@jakedfw 99.9 percent of "mail client disappeared" are because the mail client can only be in one window at a time, the user is using multiple windows, and has, without thinking about it, moved from the window with mail to one without.
-
I get that Ayespy, but that wouldn't explain it still happening when I:
- Force quite all my applications. Still happened.
- Rebooted my computer. Still happened.
- Moved to a NEW computer, started it once. Email was there!
- But... started it ONE more time, and it was gone.
Now it could be that it's due to me running the snapshot at the same time. But it's odd that it happens to the one program and not the other.
I just can't figure out how a reboot doesn't fix it.

@jakedfw I'm not familiar with Mac, and I have never, though I live in the mail client for my work, seen a symptom like the one you describe.
For one thing, running multiple instances (in Windows, at least) does not affect mail visibility. Each instance supports a window with mail, all simultaneous. So though I mentioned the most common cause of "mail disappearance," I can't even guess what you have going on. Perhaps a Mac maven can come up with something.
