Downloaded files with random cryptic names ??
-
Hi,
I have a problem since a while with Vivaldi on my two Linux computers (whatever distro used in case). When I download a file from Internet, it's most of time (99%) renamed with a weirdo name like that: "c3287556-3380-4779-a30c-67e53a5e18d2" The extension of file is not changed, only the name but it's quite annoying and happens whatever website I download files from
Problem is there also since a while so it's present with different versions of Vivaldi !
What can be the cause of such issue ? or what should I investigate ?Right now using Vivaldi 5.5.2805.42 (Stable channel) stable (64 bits) on Debian 11 (amd64 version).
Thanks
Vincèn

Any link to such download?
As indicated in my original post it's not specific at any website, it happens whatever it's a direct download or for example a PDF opened in Vivaldi and then I decide to save it ! I have disabled the few extensions I use this afternoon and restarted Vivaldi to check if it's an extension that makes some shit

Cannot reproduce issue.
What value is shown for ⋮> Document properties > File name? If it is same as cryptic name then this is expected behaviour when saving and not unique to Vivaldi's browser.

Sorry but not sure to understand what you are talking about there
You speak about document properties in the operating system ? If so what is link with problem there ??

Sorry, my mistake as I wrongly thought PDF was being viewed in browser and then downloaded from there.
Do you see the issue when saving the following PDF Download as PDF - Wikipedia? If not then can you post the URL for a PDF that is causing issue to see if it is reproducible?

It happens also in that situation not differently of what happens for a direct download !Do you see the issue when saving the following PDF Download as PDF - Wikipedia? If not then can you post the URL for a PDF that is causing issue to see if it is reproducible?
Tried your link and no problem with that download. As soon as I get a download from a public link where problem shows up I'll share it here
I tried to deactivate all extensions but no change with or without extensions running !

@vincelaus Try in a extra test profile (do not add extensions or make settings, just close Welcome page when it appears on screen).
For such test profile start Vivaldi in terminal with
vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/VIVTEST"

So far problem has disappeared
only thing I did was one time deactivate few extensions I have, restart Vivaldi, reactivate them all but not sure if it can have any effect on such problem...
Will update if problem comes back -
@vincelaus If you want to test if any extension makes trouble, start Vivaldi browser ins shell with command
vivaldi --disable-extensions
