Vivaidi in the Linux distribution can be installed as the default browser?

  • I am maintaining a Linux distribution, and like Vavaldi very much. Is commercial software or open source software? Can we install it by default without written permission? My project website: http://www.wenyinos.org (with Chinese) Thks.

You're asking if you can re-distribute it, pre-packaged with an OS - much the same as every Lubuntu distro installation includes Firefox.

Vivaldi is NOT open-source, but it would surprise me if the Vivaldi Team objected to your plan. I'm just a user, so I hope they read this thread and answer you.

  • Because of the fact it has a different license, most of the major distros will not include it in the base distro, but I know Jon never complained about distros including the old Opera - and even encouraged it, since the company couldn't possibly package it for all distros. While I can't speak for the company, I'm sure Vivaldi will be the same.

Hmm…..Not only package it, I want to install Vivaldi in our Linux distro by default. It has permission?

  • I pinged the team about your question, I hope you can get an answer soon.
