Emoji List Keyboard Shortcut in Mac Version?

  • I noticed both FireFox and Chrome both have a keyboard shortcut to access the list of emoijs on the Mac version when typing (Control+Command+Space). I think Vivaldi should totally have this feature so we can easily access emojis when typing instead of having to have a website open in a another tab with the list of emojis!

  • Me, too! Many user use emoji. So, I think Vivaldi should support this keyboard shortcut.

  • Yeah, I agree! I use that shortcut a lot (I love emoji, and this shortcut just made them easier to use), and just switched from Chrome to Vivaldi and was wondering why it wasn't working! :P I may be a bit ignorant about this, but it doesn't look like it would be too difficult to impliment!

  • +1. I use this feature frequently, so not being able to access in the browser is very inconvenient. It's one of the few remaining things that makes me consider not using Vivaldi as my default browser.

Just wanted to let you know that this is tracked as issue VB-18960. If you see that ID in the patch notes, it has been implemented.

  • It seems to be unfixed by today... :(

  • Agreed. I use emojis all the time; this is 1 of 2 things holding me back from using Vivaldi for everything.

  • This is still not fixed. (1.11.917.43 (Stable channel) (64-Bit))
I'm using emojis a lot and I do like the apple implementation with crtl+cmd+space, but Vivaldi doesn't open it up. 😢

  • @interest But the Finder can open it. This is really no big deal, just click beside the Vivaldi window on an empty spot on your desktop and use the command to load the emoji window, then you can use it normally. It's literally just 1 click more. Don't think this should get priority honestly.

  • @luetage It is more than one click though. I first need to go out of fullscreen then make the Vivaldi window smaller, open this window, expand it and then I can use it but I need to drag the emojis over to Vivaldi instead of just clicking on it. Plus then make the window bigger again and go into fullscreen.

I agree with you here. I personally always use windows taking the full available screen (not in fullscreen though), so I can't click the desktop easily. This means that first, I have to click the finder icon in the Dock or Cmd-Tab to the finder (and if I have a finder opened somewhere, then MacOs takes me to that window, so it changes context). Then once I open the emoji popup, I search for one emoticon and need to copy-paste it or drag it.

It's feasible, but really painful. It might seem silly, but this has been one of the main features I've always missed in Vivaldi.

  • You can load emojis from the menu-bar too as a workaround.

I've also enabled the software keyboard tool in the macOS menu bar.

In System Preferences / Keyboard -- enable the "Show Keyboard, Emoji, & Symbol Viewers in menu bar" option.

Click on the icon whenever you want to enter an emoji or any other special character. No need to switch to another application or drop out of fullscreen mode. Works for every other application too.

  • @xyzzy I will try that out. Thanks!
