              Why Open the Web?

Despite the connecting purpose of the Web, it is not entirely open to all of its users.
When used correctly, HTML documents can be displayed across platforms and devices.
However, many devices are excluded access to Web content.

[Settings][Privacy] Change default for new setting “Hyperlink Audit Tracking”: because of potential for problems

About this - I think maybe the wording on the option should be clearer. The first two options are Ask/Allow but it's not easy for users to understand if checking this option actually allows or denies it:

                e7ac8585-74a5-4804-8d8b-6fc0e79890e8-image.png

Currently the hover text explains the option but not everyone looks at that. It could be changed to "Allow hyperlink audit tracking" for instance.

                > BTW, today I cannot connect to mozdev.org, would you know why?
Maybe that big lizard escaped and ate the server admins? :-)

@pathduck: Yes we have a bug for that, logged by yours truely (VB-91985). It is very confusing I agree. The text was just changed on our main branch but I am not sure if we can get this onto the stablisation branch in time because of translations. We will see. But yeah it is not great.

I think it is like this because it was one setting here and then it made sense but as more were added we did not think about the title and now it is confusing.

Do i read correct: Vivaldi browser now has allowed Tracking of Hyperlinks?
Does it mean in HTML any attribute ping="URL…" will send a request by default?

@DoctorG It means the setting is checked, i.e. Hyperlink audit tracking is allowed by default on new installs. Users can of course turn it off.

@DoctorG Yes, that's not nice. It was not for me though. Maybe a bug?

@doctorg: No it wasn't, you never set it. You were just relying on the default that was already there. It only changes if it was never manually set by you (true for all settings). If you manually set it one way or the other that is remembered.

Put another way, we changed "the default", we did not change your setting since you set nothing.

P.S. I should also mentioned that this did not exist as an option in stable 5.4 at all. So for stable users there is no change either way. Snapshot users can expect more of a bumpy ride. That is why you are on snapshot.

@pathduck: Not as far as I can tell, trying it here. I suspect @doctorg just never set it in the first place. We changed the default, we are not alterting the setting if you manually set it.

@doctorg: Yes we are looking at issues it can cause. We may change it back, we are still discussing it internally. As a user you are still free to change the setting however, which is more than most browsers offer.

Address bar now shows suggestions, but the whole thing refills (redraws) several times before settling (and the things it shows initially don't seem to have anything in common with that I typed; it takes 4-6 seconds before the proper suggestions are shown, and the drop-down stops redrawing).

Still no fix for the cold startup in windowed mode, I see. Very disappointing. Is the present window behavior it? I mean, is Vivaldi done "fixing" this issue? Have Vivaldi start up with a proper window animation in maximized mode, but not in windowed mode? C'mon, guys and gals. Do better. I hope this isn't the end of it. 😞 That would suck.

Hi, did you reported this issue to the bug tracker?
I guess such "cosmetic" issues are low on priority but who knows.

                                          Cheers, mib

@altcode and Vivaldi marketing, I think the message shouldn't be that an empty task list is a problem. The message should encourage getting stuff done that need to be done today and to relieve one's mental load by writing down to dos for the future. So it should not say "your task list is empty, create a task!" as if a task was a valuable thing to have, but rather "all the hard work is done! Something you want to do in the future?"
