I heard you wanted a Friday snapshot – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2797.3

@DoctorG Good thing I didn’t enable it. I too found the name and info to be rather frightening.

I heard you wanted a Friday snapshot
Yes, also a drop-down bookmark menu please
-
The old annoying problem is finally fixed!
On a 1st Vivaldi launch you can use arrows keys to select SD thumbnails! This option should be enabled
-
Since the previous two builds smooth scrolling doesn't work unless I enable it in Flags. Anyone else? Windows 11 x64.

One issue that I've had for the last two snapshots is that occasionally I lose the ability to interact with any webpage.
The Vivaldi interface still works. I can switch between tabs just fine. But I can't click on any links or interact with any webpages.
I haven't been able to reproduce it consistently. It doesn't happen very often. Maybe once every couple of days. So far it seems random.
When it happens, the only way to fix the issue is to close the browser and restart it.

I seem to no get autocomplete in the address bar from visited sites, suggestions drop down seems to work tho. Anybody else with this problem?

I confirm that such browser behavior happens, but not regularly, which makes it difficult to identify patterns and apparent causes.

@pathduck: "Portals provide a first-class way to render children into a DOM node" sounds like the plot of a Japanese horror movie. Eerie.
-
@herrschreiberbeivivaldi It's those React developers, just won't stop rendering children into portals, even how many times we've asked them to stop it... Won't someone think of the children!?
-
@Pathduck Did someone says „children with a portal gun”?

Sad, export a calendar to ICS file is missing much events data.
Bug reported: VB-91871 "Calendar export misses some data"
As Vivaldi Sync can bot be used for a local calendar, you can to get it onto an other device or re-import in a server-sided calendar. -

True. It's Saturday.....

Since this snapshot typing in address bar starts the search immediately after one letter is typed in. Before that I could type, for example, nasa.gov and it'd display the page I visited more or less instantly. Now it searches it letter by letter and it takes ages even on Ryzen 5900x. Is it possible to return the previous way of how address bar worked?
-
@tsa-work
Hi, there is not a setting for it but may it depends on the search engine?
If I use Google, Bing or DDG the suggestions appear in 1/10´s of a second.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
I'm not talking about suggestions, I'm talking about pages/sites that I visit often. For example, before this update if I typed "bioarxiv" it instantly displayed the page that I frequented before. Now it shows search result (in visited page history etc) for a letter "b", then letters "bi" and so on -
@ugly Sometimes I also encounter this glitch on the RC but never saw a good pattern to do a report. But cloning the hanged tab always solve that as only affect the active tab.

Is there any plan to show an explanatory popup the first time a user presses Ctrl+F11?
I've just spend several days living with this weird situation where the status bar, tab bar and address bar disappeared and I had no idea what I'd done! I think I was trying to press Ctrl+F12 to get the settings.
I managed to get 2/3 back using the View menu but still couldn't get the address bar back, and toggling F11 full screen mode just made me more confused as only the title bar would be toggled.
I searched the options for address bar and nothing indicated that I was in some special mode to help me understand that I needed to press Ctrl+F11 again to get back my usual bars. I eventually worked it out by looking through every shortcut in the Keyboard options to see what I might have pressed by accident.
May I recommend that the Toggle UI / Ctrl+F11 option be added to the View menu so that we can see it's been selected and try toggling it back if we're confused?
Thanks as always for your work making this awesome software, which has been my daily browser on desktop and mobile for years now.
-
@wardies Imho that shortcut shouldn't be set as a default as can be considerable a minor ux bug (for non tech users). Feel free to report if you will.
It requires less effort than adding a popup. -
@tsa-work Address bar drop-down is pretty broken for me – 90% of the time the only thing in there is the Search suggestion. The other 10% of the time, some of the pages I visited in the last session show up, but not all, and I have no idea how it decides what to show.
