Combination of Quick Commands and Bookmarks: User Experience Enhancement
-
Quick commands can only search bookmarks and open URLs
Traditional bookmarking of web pages to a specific folder is very cumbersome and difficult to use. You need to press Ctrl D twice to bring up the bookmark window, click the search box, enter the folder you want to bookmark, select the folder, and click the Done button.
So I have an idea. By typing bk and a space in the quick command, and then typing the folder name you want to bookmark, there will be smart completions, or a drop down menu with similar folders for you to choose from.
Press tab to complete the bookmark folder you specified, press enter to finish the bookmark
This method is suitable for your need to specify folder bookmarks, and does not conflict with the current bookmark function, but rather is a feature that enhances the user experience.
If you want to save the current page to the last used bookmark folder, you directly double click Ctrl D.
You want to bookmark to a specific folder, use the quick command method I described. -
@Poto Creating a bookmark from within quick commands makes sense. As presented here, the issue is the bookmark will be created with the default name, no nickname and no description. In most cases this will still force us to open the bookmark dialog afterwards, or edit the bookmark in the panel, on the bookmarks page. A possible solution would be to allow entry of additional fields, with the option to leave fields empty.
add bookmark, name, nickname, description, folder
add bookmark, name, '', '', folder

@luetage Vivaldi currently offers three ways to bookmark web pages, bookmark pannel, shortcuts and address bar menu
click Ctrl D is to quickly bookmark the page to the last used folder without any window, by default you don't need to edit nickname and description
So, this method of mine can also be used as an option to quickly bookmark to a specified folder
Assume that the user does not need to edit the nickname and description
That is, there is a complete bookmarking method and a quick bookmarking method. Users can choose the method that suits their needs
I don't agree with your approach of providing programming parameters such as nicknames and descriptions in quick commands.Because it is not as convenient for the user to fill in the nickname and description as it is to use the bookmark window
You know, if according to you, the user needs to know that some occupancy words need to be escaped using \ , otherwise it will cause an error that the actual result does not match the user's expectation

@Poto I understand what you’re getting at, but I don’t agree. Only the most advanced users take advantage of quick commands, therefore the option to create a bookmark should be complete. As presented here, the feature would be useless to me. I’d rather stick with the existing method of creating the bookmark with shortcut and editing all fields with point and click. No point in first creating the bookmark with qc and then editing it in a separate UI.

I mean, sometimes we just need to save the page without editing the nickname and description to a specified folder
Just like Ctrl + D. Vivaldi saves to the last used folder for you, but instead of a pop-up window for you to edit, it just bookmarks it without disturbing
It's not about replacing each other, it's about providing the right choice to users with different needs
