Snap Layouts, Take Two – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2763.3
-
@killchain I try to ping someone for testing. Be patient.
-
@gif2d: AFAIK "2763.3" means, it is the third build on the 2763th day of Vivaldi-development.
-
@Fendar You crazy guy
-
Now that a name can be set for mail accounts maybe that same name should be used throughout the UI. As it stands I see the set name on the mail panel but on the mail move menus the mail address is used and not the set name. On the mail message header section it is also the mail address that appears on the side of the the folders.
-
@Fendar you're implying that they working on Vivaldi since Saturday, January 17, 2015 and first launch was on Wednesday, April 6, 2016?
So, 445 days for first product launch?
Strange then…Vivaldi.1.0.344.37 doesn't keep that rule… -
@Gif2D Vivaldi was being worked on from some time in 2014. Its first technical preview was released to the public Jan 27 (or 28?) 2015. The first full stable public release was Ver. 1 on Apr 26, 2016. I have been using Vivaldi as more or less my default browser since January 2015.
-
@Gif2D And generally speaking, the numbering rule Fendar spoke of is how Vivaldi characterizes how they number versions. I don't know how strictly they adhere to the number of days counted. But the current internal version is 2765 and if you had counted from Jan 17 (including the 17th as day 1) that is the number your would come up with. I don't know why they started counting on Jan 17 and then didn't show us the first TP until 10 days later, but counting from Jan 17 2015 is a reliable way to estimate the build number. ALSO - a build is numbered the day it is built, not the day it is released. And last note, the final decimal number is the revision-number of the stated build.

I was playing around with switches and flags (removing and adding different stuff, then reverting to defaults) and noticed in
vivaldi://about/
a new to me loaded by default switch called--desktop-startup-id=
containing the hostname and some numbers including probably a timestamp, that I don't remember having seen before (my playaround). Is that a new thing (or have I been compromised )? -
@npro Man, I would have no idea.
-
@npro I don't have it in any of my instances, but all of mine are standalone and I don't know if the switches would be different for user-only or all-users.
-
@Ayespy I will downgrade to some older version later at some point to check this, maybe it is the new counting method that was being baked all this time.

I've also got that - and believe it is new(ish)!?
It's on both Stable and Snapshot. -
@TbGbe Do either of you use multiple profiles?

No.
I'm always just me
Edit: Maybe it's a Linux thing??
I have sometimes used "Guest" in Snapshot, but not in Stable. -
@Thot ok, I understood you in that way that it worked after a restart of vivaldi, but the show/hide menu always works only after a restart of vivaldi (so it shows/hide the filter/rss/... only after restart). that is IMO totally unintuitive

True. Mail-Panel does not update its view. If it’s worth a bug report I could do it. (???)

@doctorg: Do you mean https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/74124/windows-aero-effects-from-7-vista-showing-up-for-a-split-second-when-opening-on-new-window issue is solved? However I can still see the flashing win7-style border when opening Settings window.
-
@taos I cannot see it for the Snapshot, checked regular window and settings window.
May be a timing issue on my side so i could not see it. -
@Ayespy seems related to profiles (OS or browser), easy to test. It's also a bit chaotic if you start adding/removing profiles and logging out/rebooting or if the browser is started via terminal, in that case the id-switch doesn't show up. Sometimes it doesn't show up after a cold boot but if you restart the browser it does.
