Interview with Jon in The Daily Swig

Check out this nice interview with @jon on The Daily Swig.
“The fact that the data exists, doesn’t give the company the right to misuse it,” von Tetzchner argues. “You would not expect your mailman to read your mail, you wouldn’t expect your telco to listen to your calls and you wouldn’t expect the carpenter to make an inventory of your furniture. So, it’s just a question of what’s reasonable.”.
Vivaldi browser founder Jon von Tetzchner puts privacy at the center of development

@jane-n , good and important article, shared
-
Over recent years, Vivaldi has added a mail client, calendar and feeds to its product suite.
But von Tetzchner does not see that as the limit.Aha, there we have it -- a concrete promise for TST. Ripper!

Thanks for sharing it further @Catweazle.
@guigirl, TST = tree style tabs?

TST = tree style tabs?
Yes... which when i began these annoying forum nags of mine a few years ago, i meant it literally as https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/tree-style-tab/. However, i later discovered its "competitor" https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/sidebery/, to which after a learning curve i later changed. It's simply fantastic. Furthermore, in a recent chat with its Dev via Github, i've now learned that they are working on incorporating native on-hover tab thumbnails, which atm til then remains V's singular tab-management advantage. Once Sidebery gains its thumbnails, it will be untouchable, definitely ahead of V.
Pls note; i'm not just being a sycophantic FF-fangirl; i began using V in Feb 2015 & still ofc love it... but the combo of FF Nightly + Sidebery is formidable. It will be a happy day when V finally gives us that TST option too... infinite nesting, groups et al give me far greater tab control in my Nightly, than i have so far in my Snappie [whose Two-Level & Accordion options were very nice when we got them, but once seduced by TST/Sidebery, they just pale by comparison].

We don't need to worry in the UK and Europe. We have The Data Protection Act.
I think that it is already too late to shut the stable door, but we should never give up trying to tighten and enforce legislation to reduce the amount of our person data that can be stored, and what can be done with it.
-
@jane-n Oh no!!
Haven't you heard of "Pandora's box"??? -

Makes me think:
——European Data Protection Board (EDPB)!
——Your personal Data is protected by the Government and the Big Tech, not by YOU!
——We value your DATA, which YOU don’t seem to value!

For you and at least 140 other Vivaldi users.

I did open the box, didn't I?
But this is getting off topic. So, bye!

Interesting little stab from the author of the article at the very end:
Whether opening up browsers to the automotive world brings more security and privacy concerns, remains to be seen.
Considering that cars are increasingly "connected" and collect their own telemetry, all of which owners likely have little to no control over, I'd say that having a browser in your car is the least of your concerns.
o/t: Aside from ripping out the modem, can you even configure a firewall on a car?

I am afraid it it's too niche option and almost nobody knows about it
meanwhile you can enjoy TST on YT for now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOCG2X-p-zw
