Solved Sync has died since upgrading to 5.3.2679.51 stable
-
It started with search getting broken. First, searching from address bar didn't do anything. Then I checked search engines and found that I no longer have any search engines except google. And, I can't delete or edit any of these googles.
Then I checked sync to maybe sync my settings back from the cloud and found out that sync has died.
What can be done to fix these issues? -
@gromodzilla
Ooops, reading lists are working.
This looks your profile is broken, I fear.
Create a new profile or rename your profile folder "Default" in App Data\Vivaldi\User Data (If I remember correctly).
Start sync for this new profile, check sync-internals.https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/user-profiles/

Hi, this is a known issue of 5.3, workaround:Known issue
If you have recently upgraded to 5.3 and have a problem where you cannot change search engines (VB-89670), we are still planning a fix for this in a future update. To work around it in the mean time, just disable and immediately re-enable any extensions you have installed that can configure/setup search (.e.g. “DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials”, “Startpage — Private Search Engine”, “Kagi Search”, etc.). Now restart the browser. You should then be able to control the default search engine again in Settings.Some user report they have to disable/enable all extensions.
This was published with the change log of 5.3:
https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/minor-update-three-5-3/This is already fixed in the latest snapshot (Beta) Vivaldi 5.3.2679.51 and latest stable version from today.
Sync is working on all my devices.Cheers, mib

I have no such extensions. In fact, I tried to turn off all extensions and restarted Vivaldi.
Search now looks like this:
Sync is still broken too.

@gromodzilla
Did you try Restore Defaults?
The sync issue is a different issue, we try to solve the search issue first, if you like.Mib

5.3.2679.51 is a latest stable version available. Just upgraded to it, couple of hours ago, and everything broke.
I tried both buttons below, 'restore defaults' and 'reset search settings to default', nothing changes.

Search fixed itself with no apparent reason. All my searches is back and everything is editable again.
Sync is not working though. -

Haha, the magic of computer support, now we get to something completely different, sync.
Open vivaldi://sync-internals
On right side is a button TriggerGetUpdates hit it once.
This should update the sync service and may you can see errors.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Rebuilt my profile, works ok. Lost all my opened tabs.
Too bad that's the only way to recover. -
@gromodzilla
If you have a update you can copy the tabs and sessions over to the new profile. -
