Switching video to full screen is slow
-
Every time I double-click the video to enter fullscreen mode, or click the fullscreen button in the corner, it takes ~2 seconds to open the video in fullscreen. And the transition from fullscreen and back is very choppy.
I tried disabling hardware acceleration, which worked in older version of vivaldi, but now it does nothing.
However, in twitch, for example, fullscreen transitions are smooth. It's only youtube that is affected, it seems.
How can I fix this issue?Edit: now I'm noticing that when left in the background tab, it lowers the twitch stream quality to 360p. Can it not, please?
I'm about to go google how can I revert to older versions of vivaldi, tbh. -

I've checked this, and the same thing happens in chrome. This is either a chrome-engine issue, or twitch themselves lowering video quality to reduce bandwidth use. There's not much vivaldi can do, I'm afraid.
As far as I can tell, it only affects livestreams, not playback of VODs.

Hey folks!
I am exploring Vivaldi, I like it. But there is an issue that bugs me. Whenever i try and switch to fullscreen mode on yotube, it feels really buggy, any video actually, it is like it does it in 3 steps, larger large then full. Anyone ever encounter that?
Need to solve it !

@valerit Hello valerit. I confirm what you describe here.
TBH, I never paid attention to it but now that I've read your post, I share your feeling about it.
Edit : same happens both in Stable and in Snapshot -
It's been happening for a long time. I would assume that someone has made a bug report previously.

In Firefox pages/windows with videos are much more smooth when scaling, but not in Vivaldi, why is that?

Their Dark Theme off helps in some moves. It's their UI issue

Hello,
when I maximize and unmaximize a video on youtube it is super slow and sluggish. In Firefox it is smooth and there is a fade annimation. Is there anything I can do?

@luna800 I am not see any significant delay on YouTube Videos and my hardware is old.
Specs: AMD A10-6800K, 8 Gb (WinSPRLevel = 5.9) on Win 10 64-bit 1909 build 18363.592 • Snapshot 2.11.1811.28 (64-bit)

I can confirm this behavior for a long time. Can't even remember when it started.
When you click on maximize a YouTube video it takes around two seconds until the final state is reached.
The process stops half way, hangs and continues. The process is prolonged by my extensions, one of them being "video speed controller" which directly influences videos.
But even after switching off all extensions, it still takes one to one and a half second until fullscreen is reached.

Hi, this is may be GPU related, try to disable acceleration in vivaldi://settings/webpages/
You can also try a guest profile with disabled HW acceleration, it start without extensions and default settings.Cheers, mib

may i ask why this happend? from chrome to edge-chromium to vivaldi there is a lag delay when enter and exit fullscreen on videos.... on firefox is fast with no lag and delays
-
@JohnnyFire Firefox and Vivaldi both take about 1 second. Is there any way to measure this objectively in milliseconds?
Specs: AMD A10-6800K, 8 Gb (WinSPRLevel = 5.9) on Win 10 64-bit 1909 build 18363.720 • Snapshot 2.12.1849.7 (64-bit)

there's a little flash for a fraction, it's not even near 1 second for me, besides it's not like I switch often to fullscreen while playing a video, if I do it's at the start of the video and stays like that all the time.
On Youtube and Twitch I don't even need to, as I watch on both with video enlarged to full screen (theater mode), and with overlay scrollbars activated with --enable-features=OverlayScrollbar it's the same as watching them in fullscreen. -
@Pesala i dont talk about ms but lag and slow fullscreen entering and exiting.... compare to firefox with transitions off on about:config
-
@JohnnyFire Without an accurate measurement, slow means precisely nothing.
- IrfanView 32-bit loaded a RAW file in 3454 ms
- IrfanView 64-bit loaded the same file in 2828 ms
-
@Pesala its noticeable and its a bug, a bug from windows? a from chromium engine dont know.... i know that is there an its anoying
-
I timed exit fullscreen and re-enter fullscreen using FastStone Capture video recorder option.
It took 0.6 seconds, so about 300 ms for enter or exit fullscreen mode.

@Pesala i dont talk abou this but the lag white flash and etc...
