Content shifts up out of view when switching or opening tabs
-
I used to use Vivaldi with the tabs on the left side of the screen, shrunken down to just the icons. Recently, I think starting around version 5.0, the tabs straight up do not show up when set to the left side of the screen, so I switched to having them on the right side. However, I've also been contending with a bug where most of the time when I switch tabs (sometimes) or open a new tab (nearly always), the tab icon will shift to the top of the screen, along with the panel and content being displayed. I've attached a photo of what it should look like and what it actually looks like (the sparkles are my new tab background).
Restarting the browser fixes it for a while, but it eventually comes back, especially if I full-screen a video. I can also temporarily fix it by not having the screen maximized and shrinking the vertical height of Vivaldi. This causes all of the tabs to move down again, and if the top tab comes back into to view it will stay in view when I increase the vertical height again. The content all stays in view until I switch or open a new tab again.
I'm considering downgrading back to 4.x since I don't use any of the new features and I don't believe that version had this issue.

i didn't know they would show up on the right. what i've been doing is F4 and that brings up the tabs. i'm not sure whether i like it this way or not though compared to having the icons on the left, but haven't seen a way to get them back.

@pradagio Do you also have the problem with the content shifting? I set F4 to toggle the panel visibility. What command is your F4 set to?

it is just set to panel, though it toggles it (even though there is nothing in the panel toggle field. there is no content shifting, but it just overlaps the content until i push F4 again.
i'm on archlinux and i get updates quite regularly, so possibly i have a slightly different vivaldi than you.

Hm, that seems like the intended behavior to me?
For future reference, I'm running version 5.2.2623.46.

@esogea I don't think I've ever seen anything like that. 🤔 Could you try using the guest window or a clean profile and check if the same issue occurs there too? For more information, please refer to the Troubleshooting issues guide.

@pafflick It didn't appear that you could customize the guest window to be the way I normally use Vivaldi, so it didn't occur there. I made a new profile and set up the basic layout I normally have and after using it for a while the bug did not appear (though having the tabs on the left side was still broken). The likelihood of the shifted-content bug increases the longer I go without restarting my computer/Vivaldi, so maybe I just didn't use it long enough.
On another note, it seems that if I toggle the address bar to always be visible the bug also does not appear, so that will be the workaround that I will use for now.
