Feature Request: Option to activate next tab to right when closing active tab
-
Neither of the current "When Closing a Tab" options is very satisfactory. My browsing habit is to middle-click all the articles from the front page of a website that I want to read. Then, in Chrome, FF etc I just close the the current tab and the first link I clicked activates. The way Vivaldi is set up the last link I clicked activates instead. Very disconcerting and irritating.

This is definitely something I want as well.
It's one of the original close tab actions from Opera 12 that I desperately want.
Chrome and Opera 15+ don't offer this functionality.
I really want to be able to know 100% what the browser is going to do when I close a tab. I want to know that when I close a tab, the next tab to be activated will always be the one on the right.

Vivaldi works by combining Opening options with Closing options.
For your scenario (middle-click all the articles from the front page of a website that I want to read, close the the current tab and the first link I clicked activates) try:- Tools/Settings/Tabs
New Tab Position [Next to related Tabs]
When Closing Tab [Activate Next Related Tab] -
Even with that setting, sometimes it would still switch back to the tab that opened the link rather than the next link I opened.
There's also the case of when I would move the tabs around. It would be great if it would just do the simple action of going to the next tab to it instead of jumping all the back to the opening link.

But moving tabs around should not change the behaviour as the tabs would still be related. It would be great if it would just do the simple action of going to the next tab to it instead of jumping all the back to the opening link.

I believe the devs are still working on tab activation based simply on position in the tab bar i.e. On close <go left="" up="">or <go right="" down="">(irrespective of opening order) but it isn't available yet.</go></go>

^ This is good to hear because falling into random tabs out at the end of the list or in the middle is driving me bonkers! :silly:
I've tried both the options. The "related" one is slightly better, it's true but it's definitely not what I would prefer. Thanks for the feedback everyone!
EDIT: BTW, I think another way to describe the order I would prefer is essentially "closest opening time". If all the tabs were timestamped during opening, look for the one that sorts just after the tab you're closing. If none exists that is later, choose the one that is nearest in time prior to this tab opening.
