Open links from external apps

  • I set Vivaldi as default app. But problem I have is that if I click link in email client (Nylas N1), or Skype or twitter client (Corebird) only thing that happens is that new Vivaldi window opens without link in address bar. I am using Ubuntu 16.04, 64bit.

Systemsettings -> System -> Informnation -> Default applications
    Is there Vivaldi?

Have a look in my /etc/mailcap
    test@ubuntu:~$ grep -i vivaldi /etc/mailcap
    text/html; /usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot %s; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"
    text/xml; /usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot %s; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"
    application/xhtml_xml; /usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot %s; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"
    image/webp; /usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot %s; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"
    x-scheme-handler/http; /usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot %s; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"
    x-scheme-handler/https; /usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot %s; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"
    x-scheme-handler/ftp; /usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot %s; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"

  • I think that problem was that I set Vivaldi as default through Vivaldi settings. In OS settings it was entry with Vivaldi and some long text from some forum I bookmarked. It looked strange, and I could only choose that or Firefox or Chrome. I than installed snapshot, and go to OS settings to choose default app, and there was different entry saying just vivaldi-snapshot. Tried that and it started working fine, so I am good now :D

    Fine!

  • What do you mean by you installed the snapshot?

I Installed the .deb File on Ubuntu and can only set vivaldi as default via vivaldi itself and then having the problems you described.
It does not show up after I switched to another browser
