"esc" key exits full screen mode
-
It shouldn't. It also doesn't seem to be found in the key map anywhere. Great work so far!
-
i've noticed this too. i tried to find a workaround for that in the systemsettings. but unfortunately it didn't work out as intended. would be great if this is getting fixed with one of the next versions of vivaldi because i really like the browser so far. (:

+1, this is especially annoying when watching YouTube or online Videos in general, as every time you press escape to go back to the browser you also leave fullscreen mode.
-
This isn't specific to Vivaldi as i see it quite often with all sorts of Mac apps. There must be a way to code around it though. Overall, I wish Apple didn't choose that keyboard shortcut.
Of note, I think you can change the keyboard short cut in: System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts.
I hope Vivaldi can find a way to get around this annoying "feature."

Agreed, mostly b/c it doesn't happen on other browsers (Chrome, Opera, Firefox)

It's an app specific thing, it used to happen in chrome (which drove yt watchers bonkers so they changed it), iTerm2 doesn't let escape exit fullscreen either. Not really sure why it got mapped in as they even say ^⌘F toggles fullscreen.
It'll make an awesome browser even better when it goes away.

+1 This is really annoying when ever I uses the esc btn. I'm wondering if there is a way to set the shortcut of exiting fullscreen manually to another btn.

Was just coming back to bump this thread b/c I got really annoyed dealing with this again today. Hopefully the devs will take notice. I suppose I should file a bug if no one else has…

Frankly I don't understand the problem
I use ESC to exit full screen since the stone age.
Most of the video websites have even a tooltip that explains to press esc to exit from full screen visualization.
But let's assume that's a bug. What's the supposed purpose of pushing esc during a video playback, other than exit full screen?

OS X has a special fullscreen mode. When activated, the application takes over the whole screen, the menu bar is hidden, etc. This is different from clicking on the fullscreen button of a, for instance, YouTube video.
In other browsers, you stay in the OS X fullscreen mode if you exit a video's fullscreen display by hitting Esc, if you were in fullscreen mode before. Only if you press Esc again, you exit the OS X fullscreen mode. In Vivaldi, by contrast, you exit both the video's fullscreen display as well as OS X's fullscreen mode with a single Esc press. This is what people are complaining about in this thread.
I personally find the OS X fullscreen mode super annoying and avoid it at all cost, because I frequently switch between applications and fullscreen mode adds animations that are distracting and slow you down. Apparently, not everybody feels about this like me, though.

Thanks. Got it
My personal opinion is that a program should be coherent with itself before trying to be compliant to some oddities of single OS.
But that is my personal opinion. Others thinks exactly in the opposite way.
In this very case seem that complying with the OP request isn't such a dealbreaker, so should be taken in account.
@op and others did you file a bug for that? Can you share the bug number?

I tried this but couldn't find any relevant setting.
+1 I'd love this issue to be fixed so that it behaves the same way Chrome does.

Another annoying example: In order to focus into the search field in google.com, I press Esc. But pressing Esc also exits fullscreen mode.
-
ONLY annoying thing about using it… just adding my bump and two cents.
