Download command - why not copy Opera 12?

  • The download in Opera 12 was a model of reliable simplicty - click the file and the download tab opened up and you could monitor it without opening anything else so why has Vivaldi decided to stick this dialogue to one side of the browser? More pressing though is that when I try to download a file on the guardian website instead of downloading it opens up the link to play the file instead! https://www.theguardian.com/technology/audio/2016/mar/30/how-tech-is-tackling-global-problems-tech-weekly-podcast if anyone else wants to try it, maybe I need to tweak the settings but can't see anything obvious, using right click "save As" works fine but rather misses the point!

  • The podcast just plays for me if I click the Yellow play button.

There's lots of Opera 12 features that the Vivaldi developers will copy or improve on, but it takes time. Be patient.

You can set the downloads panel not to open automatically.

Agree, the download interface is bad. You can't monitor your download progress without opening the panel. On other browsers, you can easily monitor your progress.
