Optimize minor features

- Editing Bookmarks in panel
For me the "list of bookmarks" is always visible as the "edit panel" opens below it.
Thus I can just click on the "mini toolbar" to change from edit to New Bookmark/New Folder/Delete" as required.
If I want to edit another bookmark then clicking the edit option on the mini-toolbar disables/deselects it, then I can select the next Bookmark and use the mini-toolbar again.
Note: If I don't want to edit another bookmark, but just open the url, then I can immediately doubleclick it (or open the folder first) without closing the edit panel.

Search engines are stored in a weird log file. I am not sure if they can be "backed up" at the moment.

To import Opera passwords, you must NOT have master password active. An alternative is just to export them directly from opera and then import that file.

Thank you all for your quick replies!

I found out that the top of the big icon-field can be moved downwards and beneath the list of bookmarks appears! Great, I will try to explore more before posting questions in the future.ad 4):
OK, meanwhile I unterstand. The way Vivaldi works is fine…ad 5):
Now the import worked. Thank you for the advise. As many others (e.g. post #22675), I would appreciate it very much if a master password is introduced in Vivaldi soon.In general I would like to thank you all for your work and support. Even if new request are emerging frequently around the 1.0 release and if there are some not so positive comments on websites reporting first good experiences, many users will find out the advantages of Vivaldi - as I am. All the best and kind regards, Eva

Great, I will try to explore more before posting questions in the future.
If you want to explore all the ins and outs, that is great.
But never feel that you can't ask a question here.
Just bear in mind that sometimes you have to explain in (great) detail what the problem is - we can't see your screen or which buttons/keys/links you have clickedEven if new request are emerging frequently around the 1.0 release
Posts in this forum have risen from around 15 a day to nearly 100 a day since 1.0 was released !! So please be patient if you don't get an immediate response/solution.

Hello,
thank you for your kind answers and good support!I have explored question 3) a bit more:
Opening the quick commands (F2) works fine, but as soon as I type in the first letter of a search word, search key (for a defined search engine) or web address, Vivaldi completely hangs. I suppose this is because a search is started immediately and thee search runs also over all bookmarks.
I tested the quick command after deleting the two bookmak-files and then starting Vivaldi, and voilà the quick command was very fast.
I have a large list of bookmarks. This cause has also been indicated in the post https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/all/8834-filter-quick-commands-with-a-lot-of-bookmarks-very-slowI personally would need the quick command for typing an address (or search key of a defined search engine) without having to click into the address field by using the mouse. I do not need a search over my bookmarks in the quick command. If I wanted to seach the bookmarks, I would do this e.g. in the panel.
Thus, it would be very nice if the search over bookmarks could be optionally deactivated in the quick command.
Or alternatively the possibility to move the cursor to the address field via a keyboard shortcut.would be helpful. All the best, Eva

Hi Eva, testing search first time here and got some lag, about < 1 second if I type 3 letters.
I have may 300 bookmarks, most imported from Opera 12 but don´t use them very often.
This is on very old core2duo laptop but with SSD.
How long is the lag on your system?Cheers, mib

I found that when running Quick Search (F2) then typing "Vicky" there was a slight delay (I have 1407 bookmarks), before the bookmark showed up under both "Bookmarks" and "History." When I followed the link to the first I got an error "The Video is unavailable." but when I opened it from the bookmarks panel, it worked, or from the history on the Quick Commands dialogue.
I have only one copy of the bookmarks in the panel: try it Vicky Cello (this video is definitely available.
If you look closely at the URL in the screen shot, you can see that it has been changed case by the F2 dialogue to:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhW29ll0krq

 So it does. Have you reported that Pesala?
-
Oh thanks, I found the address bar focus! Yes, F8 works fine
Regarding the quick command:
I have many bookmarks: 6126
The lag of the word "test" is about 41 seconds
(5 trials; measured from typing "t" until word test is shown)
My computer is not slow, everything else works fine.I hope this helps. I am fine with F8. Probably I will soon define Vivaldi as the standard browser
-
6126 bookmarks !! I think you have achieved some kind of Medal
I hope you have good backups - just in case. :ohmy:I would assume that with so many bookmarks, you do want them included in a search.
Therefore, changing the setting "always include bookmarks" would be counter-productive. :evil:General UI speed up should be one of the main targets for Release 2.0 (once the email client has been introduced).
So I believe that all you can do in regard to speeding up is keep trying new updates as and when they become available. -
So it does. Have you reported that Pesala?
I was hoping someone else might have done already. Anyway, I have reported it now.
(VB-15544) YouTube URL Gets Changed in Quick Commands Dialogue

Dear TbGbe,
the bookmarks accumulated during some time, of course (this does not qualify for a medal). They are structured, so I can find most things quite well. I can also search with a text editor if necessary. So, currently the quick command search is not the most urgent feature for me. I will curiously test new versions, speed etc. But at the moment I am surprised and happy how Vivaldi 1.0 worksalready!I have explored the possibility of special defaults via style sheets and have adjusted the colours (partly with colour gradients) and font-sizes of my address bar and bookmark-bar, as suggested at https://vivaldi.net/forum/all/1329-a-white-skin and at https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/all/3073-vivaldi-ui-customisations and I have configured the short keys, search engines etc.
For many users, gaining a comfortable working environment in Vivaldi as they were used to in other browsers might currently be difficult. But I can already imagine how interesting Vivaldi will be when more options are configurable via the graphical interface. This browser Vivaldi is very promising!
I enjoy the speed, the quality of the websites display and the already optimized functionality.I found out that with standard printing images (not texts) of the websites are transferred to the printing interface. Thus, when a website is printed to a locally installed pdf-printer, the pdf also contains images and the text is not searchable. For this, Vivaldi has an intrinsic option to safe the website as pdf directly.
For the future:
It would be helpful if the print would not only include the url of the main site but the complete url of the site that is printed, as well as the current date, time (e.g. in the footline as in Opera 12.x).
Often, the website is adjusted to the printing page, but printing e.g. a page from the Vivaldi forum does not function correctly and results in cut sentences. Thanks again for this interesting browser and the lively forum

Tools/Settings/Address Bar
Under Address Autocomplete there is a setting "Always prefer Bookmarks"
You could try disabling this.Note if you have Autocomplete disabled, you may need to activate Autocomplete first, Deactivate prefer, then Deactivate Autocomplete again.
On my Vivaldi - I had "Autocomplete" deactivated but "prefer" was shown as activated although greyed out.But I can already imagine how interesting Vivaldi will be when more options are configurable via the graphical interface. This browser Vivaldi is very promising!
So now you are joining the rest of us checking for updates every day just in case
There was a report that the PDF print didn't work properly as it created an image of the site and not an actual PDF file! So I would expect updates to that feature soon-ish as well.
