Bug affecting recent versions of Vivaldi & Chrome: Letters combos "ff", "fl" display as ligatures

1. Go to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/effect and look at the word "Effect" 2. Go to the page http://arxiv.org/abs/1601.06806 and try to mouse-select just the "Raf" in the name Raffaella You'll find that "ff" is often being displayed as Unicode Character 'LATIN SMALL LIGATURE FF' (U+FB00). It's even happening often as I type, I see. (Try typing "affect" and trying to select just one "f".) It happens with "fl" too. Try typing "flick" into the reply box in this thread then try to mouse-select just the letter "f" or just the letter "l". It probably happens for some other letter combinations for which ligatures exist. For whatever reason, this does not seem to effect all pages. I hope this isn't an intentional feature that the Chromium authors thought would add some typographical polish. Far more likely, this is a side effect of them trying to accommodate the fact that in some languages, ligatures are more commonly used than English, so automatically joining all characters for which ligatures exist (at least for display purposes -- note that this issue is not altering text in the DOM itself) is convenient for users of those languages. However, it causes the aforementioned mouse-selection and visual oddities, and should IMO therefore not be in effect when on any page with //, of if there is no lang attribute, if the user's default language is set to English. This is happening on OS X, Windows, and Linux, and is fairly recent: I had a Parallels Windows VM with Vivaldi snapshot 1.0.403.24 (Beta 3) still installed. It didn't happen under that build, but sure enough, when I updated to 1.0.435.42, it started occurring.

I checked it.
I marked the two ff in From: Raffaella Margutti and did get two f!

The issue with ligatures instead of double chars appears only on Mac?
I cant see this on Linux and Windows with Vivaldi Final 1.0 and Chromium 49.
That is a unfixed Chromium bug on Mac as i can see in https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=473476

You have to wait until Chrmium fixces it and Vivaldi will get the code.

Sorry about the problem. But we Vivaldi team and testers cant use magic wands to fix this ;)

Seems to be cross-platform. Looking at a couple of VMs:

Windows 7 running Vivaldi 1.0.435.42:

Good to know it's on their radar, thanks.
